Power Outages Again

Even in the winter when the power consumption is very low and there is no reason as why it should be shedded despite of low flow of water from the dams, the load shedding is going on and the cities and villages have turned into houses of darkness.

If you hear and read the claims made by Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and the Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) officials, you would come to know that the load shedding is being tackled with utmost pressure and intensity, but the truth is that the duration of power outages has increased to 10 to 12 hours a day instead of the announced schedule of four to six hours.

The average consumption of urban areas feeders had reduced to 2 megawatts from the summer average consumption of 6 megawatts. The generation capacity has to be brought up to the par with the consumption capacity and government must not target the end of the one year, rather they should target the date before summer.

Asif Ali Zardari, the president of Pakistan should have mercy on the people of Pakistan and must bring in someone knowledgeable to lead the power sector, because it is clearly evident that Raja Pervaiz Ashraf is not the man to do so.
