What the Dupatta should really cover ….

A lot of girls cover their heads during the Azan with a dupatta, but I don’t know if that is a cultural thing or a religious requirement. They only cover a portion of their heads though. It looks like they are only trying to cover the back of their head! Some girls wear the dupatta on their head habitually, but again, they reveal more hair than they conceal. The dupatta looks like it will slide off any second!

I think the dupatta was generally designed to be worn to cover the…ahem, but a lot of girls wear it around their necks. It has turned into a fashion accessory rather than a requirement. For others, it is purely cultural.

Even while covering the head during the Azan, the dupatta must still be covering the…you know what. Some women cover their head during the Azan in a manner where they end up revealing what really needs to be covered.

@Shakir: My thoughts are pure and clean. You are the one who supports masturbation (a result of dirty thoughts) and says that looking at women’s body is healthy. Try not to indulge in slander next time and try not to sound like a hypocrite.

@ General Khan: I suppose, Sir, it’s because our mothers were women, and, first impressions being what they are, we learned early that women are important. Also, they look quite like children in the face (maybe that’s why men are so authoritarian), but not in the body (Mr. Yusha, being a young and very decent sort, doesn’t know this yet ๐Ÿ™‚ ), and the mysterious dichotomy keeps us guys in a whirl.

@Shakir: Thanks, I gathered that–an article of clothing suited to many applications at the whim of the wearer. In the fifties women here used to wear scarves a lot. Men wore hats, fun to play with when you’re little.

James, the dopatta is piece of cloth (sometimes three feet in length, usually less) which girls in India & Pakistan carry around so they can cover their hair and upper bodies whenever they think any male looking at them (Yusha included) is thinking what are called “dirty thoughts”.

Mohammad, when you said that a Dupatta covers the “ahem” and the “you-know-what,” I just HAD to find out what a Dupatta was. Shucks, it’s just a scarf!

“Bosom,” meaning the front torso, is a good term if you’re determined to be coy about it.

I worry about you sometimes, m’boy.

There is common belief and mythology, which has got nothing to do with religion is, that at the time of Azan,if you are not going to cover your head, the SHAITAN will strike at your head. Moreover, here in sub continent we have added few things in our culture/religion, which are considered as a sign of respect for the religion.

I couldn’t refrain myself saying that you observe women a lot ๐Ÿ˜›

The covering of the head by women is not confined to Islam only. Orthodox Hindu women keep their heads covered, even when talking to their husbands. In the subcontinent, the head cover for women is mandatory when they are in the presence of their elders. Catholic nuns are also required to keep their heads covered all the time.
