Now let me be clear about this (as Obama would say): I’ve got nothing against kissing, particularly if it’s between men and women. It’s the kissing of men by men that I find offensive, even if it’s done in months other than Ramadan. But the recent publicizing of a case in which a LUMS girl playfully pecked a boy’s cheek (when she thought no one was looking) has again generated adverse publicity for the country (something it could do without). So what happened? Another student hiding somewhere photographed the scene and distributed it throughout the world, which led to LUMS permanently banning kissing of boys by girls (and vice versa).
Of course, the fact that the incident took place during the month of fasting made it worse. You can’t kiss your boyfriend (or even your husband or brother) when you’re fasting, as all of us know. But suppose the two were not fasting? As I just said, they thought they were alone and no one could see what they were doing. I agree that kissing in public cannot be tolerated by the average Pakistani, who in any case is terribly disturbed whenever he sees a woman (especially if she’s not covered by a burqa).
However, I don’t mind it when a man kisses his wife or his daughter at the airport when one of them is leaving the country. That kind of thing happens all the time (sometimes even at railway stations). But LUMS should also have banned kissing between men and men (and also between girls and girls, since I assume there are some females who would find it terribly offensive). In the meantime I’m waiting for some Saudi/Waziristan mullah to issue a fatwa banning kissing between husbands and wives even when they’re alone in their bedrooms.

@ Gopinath:
“I am a non-muslim who works in Saudi Arabia and in the last 2 decades I have realized that Muslims are the most hippocritic…”
Thank you for your blanket compliment for all Muslims. I wonder what the Muslims, whose love seems to have got you to stick around for 2 decades would think if they had the opportunity to see your true colors of rancor and spite that you display here. Allow me an introduction as well, I am a Muslim, that has for over 2 decades dealt with people who spout hate.
…they are prone to all the moral weakness of humans and yet proclaim loudly and ad nauseum about how their glorified prophet say this and that about everything from fornication to farting in public.
What’s the contradiction between moral weakness and the teachings of our beloved Prophet may peace and blessings of God Almighty be on him. Did you find any teaching that claims Muslims do not have moral weakness? Or that Muslims are taught that it is not required to guard against moral weakness? What exactly do you find hypocritical in the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH)? I am eager to hear.
Our beloved Prophet (PBUH) has taught every public and private etiquette that transformed the way the society lived in every little detail of life, does the Prophet’s (PBUH) teachings make you jealous of its comprehensiveness? Or is it gargantuan hatred? Allah SWT exposes this hatred in the Glorious Quran:
…so stop spouting hadiths
The Hadith are historical recordings of the sayings and actions of our beloved Prophet (PBUH), how does it hurt you if we practice our religion and follow his (PBUH) beautiful teachings?
and try to smile once in a while
We smile a lot, even at strangers. That’s because our beloved Prophet (PBUH) legislated:
… and so we do a lot of charity.
Survival of the fittest!
No morals, no laws or anything and NO reason to live.
Gotta love this society.
Fahim, at least animals dont blow up each other in blind hatred because the other animal is different. Animals kill only to survive and feed their young. In my view they are better beings than hate filled believers who kill thinking that their God approves of this madness and will pour rewards over their sanctimonious souls.
Gopinath: If i understand you right, you are saying that we should remove religion from our everyday work and live freely without any rules, restrictions or laws.
Okay, so how are we any different from animals?
And the reason why “we proclaim loudly and ad nauseum about how our glorified prophet say this and that about everything from fornication to farting in public”, is that his life is a perfect example for us to follow, if we want to become more human-like.

Yusha: “As for Muslims, they don’t take a bath altogether.” What’s this supposed to mean?
Kissing is an immodest act either in public or out of the bonds of marriage. It is not for a Muslimeen to indulge in such, in violation of that which Allah SWT & his messenger SAWS have decreed. Nor is it justified for anyone to publish such pictures, because Allah has decreed:
The matter should be brought to the notice of the relevant authorities, instead of publicising it. This is the correct Islamic position.
