Karachi once again fall in the grip of terror and chaos as soon as news of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination spread in the city. Mobs of angry protesters armed with sticks, petrol bombs and various light ammunition started attacking vehicles, public and state properties.
People who have started to rush back home from work, shopping and other activities got stuck in jams across main arteries and roads which are already clogged with craters and construction debris.
Most parts of Karachi including Defence, Clifton, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Malir, Korangi, Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar and Sohrab Goth are affected by the riots. There are unconfirmed reports of burning of National Medical Center (Kala pul, Defence) and BarBQ-Tonite (Boat Basin). GEO, quoting unofficial sources, mentioned 500 vehicles torched and 15 people dead so far. Karachi Metro Blog, as usual, has updates on situation of Karachi (here, here and here)
Two months ago Karachi suffered on Benazir Bhutto’s homecoming and now it is again a mess of burnt cars, torched buildings and bullet ridden human bodies. Unfortunately, police and other “law enforcement” agencies yet again failed to maintain peace and security. Like 12th May, miscreants and terrorists have free-hand to do what they wish till they got tired of their activities.
