Homeopathy, Are They Doctors?

I really don’t know what the medical laws say in Pakistan about the mentioning of homeopathic specialists as doctors. It has become a stereotype to call a homeopathic person, a doctor.

I myself know many people, who opted to become a homeopathic “doctor” over night, after failing in every other walk of life. I had a buddy in college, who was hopeless in biology as well as in maths. He was as bleak in chemistry as he was insoluble in English. He is now a Homeo doctor and surprisingly enough has got many patients.

A typical MBBS doctor in Pakistan gets his degree after a long, painful and frustrating journey. After surpassing a fierce competition in FSc, he competes in the entry test of medical colleges, then he just becomes a study machine throughout his five years in the medical college, and those five years are yet another story of misery, awful atrocities, terrible schedules and cut-throat competition. After five years, the poor doctor normally does one year house job and then he has to read some more years to get any specialization and so on.

But these homeo doctors are strange lucky species. They don’t have to study. They don’t have to know the ins and outs of human anatomy or anything else. They don’t know a thing about medicine, pathology or any other medical field, yet they call themselves a doctor.

Now a days a new dangerous trend has caught on. By exploiting the poverty of common people, some homeo doctors have started to prescribe the alopathic medicine to the patients at very cheap rates. Number of such criminal homeos and hakeems is increasing rapidly and they are reaching almost 1 million in Pakistan. They are not only conducting their evil business in public openly, but are also advertising in the media with all the fanfare.

Government should take stern action against such spineless creatures. Pakistan medical and dental council should also come forward and play its part to raise awareness in the masses.

Dear Fahad there are thousands of things in our country which should be taken care of but no one give a damm about it ..by living in our country my belief on GOD gets stronger and stronger because there is no other possible reason why this country is still together as GOD wants it to be , otherwise we havenot missed any chance exploiting its every resources in our own interest…and the only possible solution i see is to stop being critics and start looking towards ourselfs ..every one should correct ones own self … other wise there will be a need of one another big earth quake to settle us all down.some one said “Act well your part ..here all the honour is..”

@Dr. Shabbir: wow, thanks for this fresh perspective. I hope many will benefit from this. Dont you think, there should be dynamic and effetive forum or association of homeopaths, who should identify and curb such fake and dangerous so-called homeopaths?

    regards.

see this also with which i agree 100% :::

Like any profession, homoeopathy, too, has its share of the black sheep who can do anything just for the money. Their shady tricks vary from over-prescribing to ordering “prescriptions” from a particular pharmacy where they have a stake. It is very difficult for the unsuspecting victims to smell something fishy or get an inkling of what is going on until they have lost much precious time, a good deal of money and, in some instances, health.
Prescribing costly medicines is quite a common practice. Particularly, the homoeopaths who are in the retail business of homoeopathic medicines prefer to prescribe medicines (usually mixtures and combinations) carrying a higher margin of profit, notwithstanding that a better product for the same medical condition at a comparatively cheaper price is available. At times, even medicines not warranted by the patient’s condition are prescribed!

Some homoeopaths, apart from dispensing medicines from their own clinics, also hand out coded or unreadable prescriptions to their patients, asking them to have them prepared from certain homoeopathic stores or pharmacies. These coded or illegible prescriptions, needless to say, can only be deciphered by the designated pharmacies that charge a price several times higher than normal.

Another questionable practice, like in allopathy, is the ordering of unnecessary pathological tests. This is done either to appear “modern” or to oblige a friend owning a pathological lab. Some homoeopaths, employed by private medical centres with diagnostic facilities, do so under compulsion. They have to be “productive” or may lose the job!

And i totally agree with this ::

“Most of what appears under “Of bad practices in medicine” also holds true for homoeopathy in Pakistan.

What is more is the advertisement spree by some self-styled homoeopaths-cum-manufacturers of homoeopathic medicines. They advertise all type of stuff through newspapers under the label of homoeopathic products with claims to “permanently cure” some of the most common medical conditions such as acne, obesity, infertility, baldness, shortness of height, etc.

Promoting medicinal products through false claims constitutes one of the most heinous crimes in civilized societies. Not so in Pakistan. In Pakistan, “Homoeopathic products” are being marketed in a way as if they were consumer products. There are lucky draw schemes to promote their sales. Incentive prizes ranging from PCs to motorcycles and cars are offered through lucky draw coupons. In the madding race for grabbing a greater share of the market, even the ethical companies have not been lagging behind! Study tours, Umra packages, gift schemes, calendars, are but a form of bribing homoeopaths to prescribe the medicines of their benefactors.

@ Dr. Shabbir: Thanks for the comments. Its good to know that homeopaths also learn these things.

Prior writing this piece, I visited some colleges in Islamabad, Karachi and Rawalpindi. I also consulted with many homeopaths in those cities, and believe me, I didnt get any thing remotly resembling with what you have just mentioned.

Its really good, if you have read all these. It means that the flaw lies somewhere else and not in the true homeopathy.

    Dear fahad,

I am a homeopath i have studies anatomy pathology histology biochemistry and every other medial subject MORE than an average MBBS do + we have to study Materia Medica of about 1000 remedies and it is actuall in reality much more difficult to study and practice homeopathy than MBBS conventional medicine. All big homeopaths of the known history were conventional docotors and even the founder of homeopathy was an allopath Sir Hahnemman from Germany. If we have a bad standard of education and examination doesnot mean that there is NO study in homeopathy and it is very easy. You should not write any comments on the subject you have no idea of.
