The virgins of Paradise

In an interview, Syrian-born Saudi scholar Muhammad Al-Munajid described the virgins as “black-eyed….beautiful white young women, with black pupils and very white retinas, whose skin is so delicate and bright that it causes confusion….they are like hidden pearls….They have wide eyes, and they have not been touched by man or jinn. They are virgins, who yearn for their husbands. They are all the same age, morally and physically beautiful. They are like precious gems and pearls in their splendor, their clarity, their purity, and their whiteness. They are like hidden pearls – as pure as a pearl within a shell, untouched by man. Each one of them is so beautiful that you can see the bone-marrow through the delicate flesh on their legs”.

@ Mohamed: “our sisters will have equivalent to what men will have”. What exactly do you mean by this? Can you quote from the Holy Koran or Hadith to prove this?

@Shakir: I repeat that Islam is not just based on the Qur’an, but with both the Qur’an (word of Allah) and Sunnah (words and works of our beloved prophet saws). I do not want to repeat the evidence for this, which I have already stated in my previous comment (click here)

All that the Sheikh has spoken are from the Qur’an and the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet saws. I believe every word he has said, because all that he has spoken from is from the Sahih (authentic) Hadith and every mu’min believes in it. Inshallah we will see what we are promised and you will see that which you are promised. Regarding the authenticity of the sahih hadith, I have said earlier and do love every moment of repeating it never has humankind recorded history with the level of precision and stringent scientific procedure as the hadith or traditions of the prophet have been recorded, with numerous critical analysts involved in a coordinated effort over time. Neither before, nor after has humankind achieved this feat..

@James: I appreciate your concern for our Muslim sisters, to answer your question, Allah almighty does not discriminate between men and women. Allah almighty will not deal unjustly with our sisters in Islam (Glorious Qur’an 41:46). Moreover, he almighty says:

“Never will I allow to be lost the work of any of you, be he male or female. You are (members) one of another”
    – Translation of the Glorious Qur’an 3:195

They, our sisters will have equivalent to what men will have. In fact they can have even more than what the men have if they wish to, because Allah almighty says he will give them everything that they desire and all that they ask for:

“Therein you shall have (all) that your inner-selves desire, and therein you shall have (all) for which you ask for”
    – Translation of the Glorious Qur’an 41:31

@ James: until now, our women used to assume that the virgins given to good Muslims would be their wives (but made young and pure).

@ Kashif H: I suggest that you send the video to a French-speaking Muslim and find out if it’s blasphemous.

I’ve heard of the twelve virgins for good Muslim men, but what do women get in Jannah?

@ tayab: “If the shaik has stated something which does not harm to anyone why are we debating!.” How do you know it’s not harming anyone? This is the kind of thing we have to research and debate, whether the man has interpreted or translated correctly or not.

I am very concerned and much perturbed to watch the title of you tube video thats written in french. Its blasphemous and product of unguided and retarded mind. I think Muslims have every right to become emotional when they come accross such savage behaviour by Islamophobes. This is no free speech this is abuse of speech and such a speech should be given a befitting reply. All this freedom of press is in reality freedom to lie, slant and slander and coerce the other party to either relieve their ideals or twist and turn them in a way that is adaptable to the propogators. What abasement of human intellect and civilized world!

This post does not serve any pupose at all (at least obvious one). There is no issue at all. If the shaik has stated something which does not harm to anyone why are we debating!.

@ Mohamed: until now, I’d never heard of MEMRI, nor do I care about its agenda. The question is, do you believe what this cleric says? Is this the exact description of the houris (as given in the Holy Book), or has he added something of his own?

    @Shakir:

Please explain the objective of this post and its context. I see it talk about rewards in paradise, which, I assume is something you too are aspiring for, correct me if I am wrong. The sheikh is describing the beauty of Hoor al Ain or companions in Jannah (paradise). In Islam modesty comprises of preserving yourself or abstaining from gawking at the opposite gender, who you are not married to, the same applies in Jannah. The inhabitants of Jannah do not ogle at all and sundry. Moreover everything in Jannah is better in quality and at a scale much higher as compared to this world. Sex and appreciating beauty are not a taboo in Islam. These are only channelled within the bounds of marriage, both in this life as well as in paradise.

What are you getting at with this post? Especially, in the background of Islamophobes spreading prejudicial hate and misconceived ideas, in most cases out of context with deliberate intent.

Ironically, you have chosen MEMRI, an anti-Islam organisation formed with the sole purpose of discrediting Islam and Muslims, causing confusion and spreading false ideas of Islam by taking issues out of context (Google it and find out from “unbiased” sources)

Brian Whitaker, former Middle East editor of The Guardian, who has a degree in Arabic from the University of Westminster has this to say about Memri:

“My problem with Memri is that it poses as a research institute when it’s basically a propaganda operation. As with all propaganda, that involves a certain amount of dishonesty and deception. The items you translate are chosen largely to suit your political agenda. They are unrepresentative and give an unfair picture of the Arab media as a whole.”
    – Brian Whitaker, Middle East Editor of The Guardian

You have conveniently posted several MEMRI content on this forum in the past. An explanation in due from you, on your intent and purpose in making such posts. I urge the editors and administration at chowrangi.com to stop Shakir and others like him from publishing biased slander.

Concerning the accuracy of the text of the hadith (traditions of the Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah swt be on him) I can emphatically boast that never has history been written with such advanced and scientific method of recording historical text as has been done the hadith of the Prophet (saws). In the words of Marcel Boisard who oversimplifies the process of recording the hadith of the Prophet (saws):

The reported tradition is presented in two parts: first of all, the chain of transmitters or authorities, and the dictum itself. Muslim jurists, proceeding by a method which astounds the Western critical mind…
Humanism in Islam – Dr. Marcel André Boisard (former UN Assistant Secretary General and Executive Director of The United Nations Institute for Training and Research)

What the sheikh has quoted are authentic hadith from the books of Bukhari and Muslim. These two authentic books are a wonder, a marvel of human effort in their science and mechanism of recording history. Never has the humankind ever recorded history with such high standard of procedure and accuracy either before of after the recordings of the Prophet’s (saws) hadith, done by Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim both of who were not Arabs.

Shakir, wait till I find time inshallah this week to refute your misconceptions at the post “My name is khan…”.

Email debate: Yigal Carmon and Brian Whitaker
An article on Guardian Unlimited last year by Middle East editor Brian Whitaker questioned the impartiality of Memri, an organisation that translates articles from the Middle Eastern media. We subsequently published a response by Memri’s president Yigal Carmon, in which he vigorously defended his organisation. What follows is the text of a debate between the two men conducted subsequently by email. At the end of this exchange you will find links to the original articles that gave rise to the debate.
