The Plight Of Rape Victims

Is a victim’s plight caused by the rapist, or by society? I can’t understand why people in the subcontinent, Muslims and Hindus, point fingers at rape victims, as though being raped is some kind of a crime. No woman goes to a rapist and says, rape me. So why the negative and appaling attitude of society towards rape victims?

A lot of families, especially in rural areas, refuse to have any contact with a rape victim, because she supposedly brings shame on the family. Some lunatics even kill rape victims, because she ended up fornicating. How did she end up fornicating, and how does she bring shame on the family?

Movies have used rape as a promotional tool rather than show the reality behind it. Bollywood was famous for it. The censor board would not allow sex, so Bollywood would include rape in their movies instead, and the scene would be made to look erotic instead of heartwrenching.

It is unbelievable that their are some mullahs, who, instead of blaming rapists, blame the victim instead, saying she invited it somehow. Others without any common sense start parroting it.

There have been countless cases where women have gathered the courage to file a complaint at the local police station, only to be raped by the police.

The punishment for rape is 7 years if I am correct. Is this because the rapist can be freed to rape some more?

If there is anyone that brings shame due to a woman’s rape, then that is society.

@ Yusha: “And what are you doing watching rape movies at your age anyway?” There’s no such thing as a “rape” movie. When a man starts watching a movie, he doesn’t know whether it contains a rape scene or not. Anyway, what has my age got to do with it? Take my advice, start watching movies, it’ll make you a young man again (I know you’re physically young, still a virgin, but mentally you’re an old man of 85).

@ Yusha: “Does not watching porn and rape movies mean that a person belongs to the stone age?” This is the first time I’ve heard that there were porn and rape movies in the Stone Age. Maybe you’ve been around since then?

@Hend: You are absolutely correct. In all households we see the father reading the newspaper while his wife serves him tea, and many other acts that children pick up.

Women are indeed their own enemies. Just look at mothers-in-law. They suffered when they were daughters-in-law, and when they become mothers-in-law they torture their own daughters-in-law. And this cycle continues.

You still didn’t answer my question about the Pakistani changing his mind to the rape movie you showed him. Since it is a movie, why would he change his mind, unless of course he didn’t know it was a movie and thought it was real.

Your reply to why men resist rape is not correct. A women may only do it once with a guy, who may be resisting. It is not always a gang rape. Also, there are many men and women who do it more than once in an hour. And no one starts bleeding and ends up with bruises because of excessive sex.

I should also mention that women are the worst enemies of women. Many times they actually take a lead in perpetuating such practices and put this ideas in their daughters, daughter-in-laws and criticize those who are trying to break the mould and do something different.

“Although Muslims are repeatedly brainwashed by mullahs, I don’t know why Christians, Hindus and Sikhs fail to see the reality.”

    My opinion:

We have all been brainwashed by our age old culture which essentially gave a secondary place to women. On one hand we all claim to be pieous, God fearing, practicing the religion etc. etc. but on the other hand we never extend our learnings to seriously improving the status of women. How many people actually even bother to help in house work? Many people grow up seeing their fathers dictate their mothers at home and basically eat, sleep or do as they like when not out at work. We have even skewed the religion itself to justify this status of women so that it does not conflict with our pieousness.

    Just my opinion.

Yusha: some years ago, the Americans tried to convince the Saudis to declare marital rape a crime. The Saudis laughed and didn’t even bother to discuss it. Apparently (according to even Saudi clerics), the Muslim wife has no right to object even if her husband wants to have sex three times daily with her!

Yusha: “The first thing is, why would a guy resist in this day and age, and secondly, what is it with a rape including bruises and blood?” I suggest you find some woman (or even a man) and do it three times in an hour or even two hours. If you don’t want to do it with a human, try masturbating three times in an hour. You’ll know how it feels.

Yusha: since we’re talking about four witnesses to the sex act, there’s another Hadith according to which a man came to Allah’s Apostle (saw) and said, “I have committed adultery, please arrange stoning to death for me and my mistress.” Naturally the Holy Prophet (pbuh) said, “Are you mad?” But the man insisted that he had done it, and his mistress also confessed, so both of them were stoned to death.

Yusha: Jesus Christ is called King of the Jews by Christians (it’s one of the titles he’s been bestowed with).
I still watch movies whenever I have the time, I don’t see anything wrong in it, even if it has rape and a lot of sex in it (although a Stone Age person like you would disapprove).
As far as the Jewish couple is concerned, I think they were caught by more than four people, and I believe they confessed. It’s a long time since I read this Hadith, so I don’t remember the exact circumstances.

There is something seriously wrong with our society. Even marital rape does not exist as a crime. In reality, it is just as traumatizing and brutal as a rape outside of marriage. Westerners rape their wives too, but at least in the West it is seen as a crime. In poor countries, however, it is perfectly normal. Muslims, Christians, Hindus and Sikhs in the subcontinent all suffer from the malady of thinking of women as objects. Although Muslims are repeatedly brainwashed by mullahs, I don’t know why Christians, Hindus and Sikhs fail to see the reality.

I read on a fatwa site about a woman complaining that their husband has sex with her daily and she only wants to have it once a week. The reply was that it is his right and she should do it daily. Now the thing is, how can a man even think of having sex with his wife when he knows that she is not willing to do it. This husband obviously has no consideration for her will to have sex or her feelings, and his wife will now have sex because she was told that it is his right, but she will still not do it willingly. There are countless cases like this.

There are Hindu, Christian and Sikh women too, who have sex unwillingly just to save their marriage, or other reasons, all except their own will.

Although the above cases are not of marital rape since sex is not forced, but the wife is still not willing but forcing herself because she has been told to do so by a scholar, or because she wants to save her marriage, or she fears that her husband may leave her, or whatever the case.

Should the above cases also be seen as a crime?
