Pakistan’s Economic Crisis: we’re responsible

Now that the nation is going through an economic crisis, people are talking about how the country can be saved from financial collapse. Unfortunately, even those who compere TV programs don’t know that we ourselves are responsible for our predicament. we have been spending more than our incomes. Even the peon in my office has two airconditioners in his house (bought from money borrowed from banks). I know people who buy new cars every year, just because they want their neighbours to think that they’re still wealthy. Someone should calculate how much Musharraf spent on his many visits to foreign countries when he was running the country. The present leaders, too, should refrain from going on foreign junkets (with hundreds of their sycophants) every now and then.

And then there is the colossal waste of fuel and electricity everywhere. The Tableeghi Jamaat holds a congregation every year (this year there were two). Two and a half million people attend this useless ceremony (useless, because in 61 years, the country has gone from bad to worse, despite all their prayers). It doesn’t require a nuclear scientist to calculate how much fuel and food the country can save if these “ijtemaahs” are not held. If you consider that at least a thousand rupees are spent on going to Raiwind and coming back, as well as eating food for three days and nights, the amount of money that is wasted is colossal. In fact, if all that money is given to Edhi, he can build a medium-sized hospital every year. But I doubt if the people who organize the annual event at Raiwind are even aware that hospitals are needed in the country. Their priorities are totally different from those who have the welfare of the country in mind.

    Dear Mr. Shakir,
    You said in the topic:

    “Pakistan’s Economic Crisis: we’re responsible”

But in the contents you try to prove that
“Pakistan’s Economic Crisis: Tablighi Jamaat is responsible”

Why some people always blame religion and religious people for all the problems in Pakistan. They think that people should not go for Hajj and Umra not slaughter in Eid, as it is wastage of money in their eyes but they are not opposing the people who have many houses, cars and other luxuries which are not their needs or comforts. If people celebrate Basant or other festivals and spend a lot of money, they said it increases employment of the people whose business are attached with these ceremonies.

Please always use a forum in positive manner.

In my opinion Mr shakir is correct.
what these tablighi ppl have achieved so far for the country, terrorism, creating bad feeling for other sects. They all are doing this for self satisfaction.they start spreading Islam to the public and dont know what is happening in their own houses.

i disagree with your idea about the The Tableeghi Jamaat. it is not a useless ceremony…..they discuss about Islam in these jamaat….so its wrong to say its Useless and it has no releation to pakistan economic. the useless things are the clubs the young generations love to visit….

Patriotism of Pakistanis could be tested any where in the world by asking them to help their country in rainy days but what about super class of people (richest fuedals, industrialists, drug lords and above all the politicians who successfully run the highly profitable business of politics in the Pakistan. An estimated rate of profit in Pakistani politics is 1000 to million per cent, details can be calculated by politicians increasing wealth. Majority of Pakistanis living abroad are labor class and highly skilled professional. No body give them money for nothing. They have to work hard for it. Some of them are businessmen who also work very hard to earn their fortune. There is no favor or nepotism in open markets of the world. After all these hard work they should give money to the country because few people of super class have taken country wealth abroad. I have lived and worked in Middle East and visited Europe and now living in USA for last 10 years, I found average Pakistan more patriotic that upper class of the country. We are ready to come forward again and will help/ invest in the country but this upper class should be stopped to taking national wealth abroad and participate accordingly in saving and investing in the country. At present two richest group of politician in power, they should provide the biggest share instead of going for begging to the rich nations. The richest nations are not rich by begging but by hard work. The upper class should go and observe how hard Chinese are working, come to USA and observe how people work and live here. The government of Pakistan should imediatly issue foreign currency investment bond offering good rate of return still better than IMF and world Bank, We Pakistanis abroad will buy with their savings and it will be a great help. The bonds should be gaureneted by international authorities The editor of Pakistan Times is a talented lady who invite us to write these comments. Pray for the country where majority population is helpless in front of few exploiters of supper class of rich politicians and defense forces have no choice but to defend them in the system. All the best. KHWAJA AFTAB ALI, Advocate & I.P. Attorney, presently residing in Florida state of USA.

I think the wealth you mentioned must be confirmed by many sources but I am made to believe it is much much more than those figures….

The nation has stayed deprived. They shouldn’t be blamed for the misadventures of the ultra rich of Pakistan. Its very easy to point fingures but if theres going to be any change even the austerity drive as Mr Lakhani has refered this nation is lacking it shall be top down. We dont have any example. We dont have a hero or a role model. I dont agree if we had any leader of calibre after Quaid-e-Azam. The petty crimes or dream fulfilments in a certain spend thrifty way (where they are totally responsible to payback loans and cannot default) is a peanuts as compared to the looting spree by the elitists.

sorry to say your points are illogical. world has become more scientific you must prove what you say. in 70’s when suadi arabia was in economic crisis, according to your suggestion they must stop investing in the useless ceremony of huge.

if you are against the tablighi jamait so show your feelings in other forums, discussing such topics illogically is not appropriate for your image and goodwill.

    thanks,

    Shakir,

if the peon has two air conditioners that’s very encouraging indeed. Goes to prove the guy has high ambitions unlike many poor who are only shrouded in self pity a pessimism.

After all he borrowed money from the bank and at least did not steel it from others like dare I say many of our so called leaders.

However, your point is well taken. We should all try to live within our means.

As far the spending on Raiwind “ijtemahs” is concerned, it’s but a small change compared to the staggering amount our so called leaders hold in their coffers.

I recently received a forwarded email with some mind boggling stats.

I am not sure about the source where from this information was gathered by the initial sender of the email, but if the figures are real, then it surely makes one wonder about the integrity and sincerity -towards the Nation- of our leaders…

Here’s the content of the email (which was in a slide show form):

Pakistan needs $10,000,000,000 i.e Ten Billion Dollars.
(the writer did not specify as for what purpose Pakistan needs Ten Billion Dollars; but I suppose its needed to revitalize the fast deteriorating economy of the Country).

The next slide shows the wealth metrics of 5 wealthiest men of Pakistan:

    Mian Mansha: $2.5 Billion Dollars.
Asif Ali Zardari (President of Pakistan): $1.8 Billion Dollars.
Sir Anwar Parvez U.K. : $1.5 Billion Dollars.
Nawaz & Shahbaz Sharif :$1.4 Billion Dollars.
Saddar ud din Hashwani: $ 1.1 Billion Dollars.

    Total: $8.3 Billion Dollars.

    The next slide reads:

Pakistan holds $250 Billion Dollars ( This includes Rich Pakistanis within the Country and Overseas, Politicians etc).

    **And then the writer taunts**:

And we are looking at IMF to save Pakistan’s economy!

    The next slide exclaims:

It’s EYE OPENING MOMENT for Pakistani nation to recognize our leaders’ honesty with Pakistan.

…then the author of these slides demands innocently:

Let us all ask Asif and Nawaz to bring their $3.2 ($1.8+$1.4) Billion to Pakistan…
    Continues with:
if they do so all Pakistani will follow them and send at least $25 Billion (i.e. 10% of $250 Billion) to Pakistan.

And the ending slides contain the following closing messages:
If they don’t should we call them our leaders?
    It’s the time…it’s the test.
Pakistan is Calling Asif and Nawaz
Prove yourself the leaders of a Nation…no time for proxies

The last slide concludes with this message:

    Dear Pakistanis
let’s prove to the world that we are not dumb people, to be led by cheater politicians.

The author of the slide signs off with:
    Pakistani

    Hmmmm…
I wonder how many Air conditioners can be bought or hospitals and Schools can be established with that kind of money?

They tell us that Quaid e Azam Muhummad Ali Jinnah use to draw only Rs. 1 (i.e One Rupee) as his salary from the National exchequer, as a chief executive of the Country.

Will we ever find leaders of that caliber again?
Let’s remain optimistic (like peon with Air conditioners).
    Long Live Pakistan!
