M. F. Hussain no longer an Indian!

MF HussainIn so-called “secular India” which treats Muslims and other minorities like dirt, the famous creative painter and genius M.F. Hussain was forced to leave his homeland because of threats against his life. His crime, of course, is that he’s a Muslim. Now, after living in self-exile since 2006, he’s been given honorary citizenship by the Islamic government of Qatar. Naturally, he has surrendered his Indian nationality.

All Indians should feel deeply ashamed that their Hindu fundamentalists have virtually taken over their country and are now dictating what is right and what is wrong (not unlike the Taliban, who used to enforce their own beliefs on the hapless people of Afghanistan before they were driven out of power). But of course it has been obvious for long that the so-called secularism of India is a facade. Every Indian Hindu yearns for the day when a Hindu empire will stretch from Afghanistan to Indonesia (as it did in the distant past).

India is a country where Muslims, Sikhs and Christians are routinely slaughtered, and nothing is done to bring the killers to justice. Naturally, M. F, Hussain did the right thing in choosing to flee India and accepting Qatar nationality.

There is a lot of difference between personal preference and defamation. Living together are actors’ personal preference and what MF Hussain is doing is defamation.

regarding the Nudity in Movies, The Central Board of Film Certification of India does not approve such movies, and showcasing the movies without approval is a crime. Suppose such showcasing is approved then it assigns ratings for the Movies and for you as a consumer, its again a personal preference to go and watch nude movies and not compulsion. You can call this as the side effects of democracy…

Hi, Shakir: I’d say they want to kill him, if they do, because he’s HIM, the one who thumbed his nose–or so they thought–at their dearly-held beliefs, unless they have so stated. That he’s Muslim is beside the point; they could cop the same attitude if he were Catholic, or Rastafarian. I don’t know much about Hindu religions; maybe they don’t care if their actors are married, or naked in public; it doesn’t bother me any. Anyone who hangs all his pride on his religion doesn’t have much to offer anyway, I’d say.

James: Hindu fundamentalists/extremists want to kill him just because he’s a Muslim. If they’re really so concerned about their religion, why don’t they do something about their film actors and actresses who live together without being married to each other? Why don’t they protest against movies which show almost fully naked actresses although the nudity has nothing to do with the story?

It appears to me that Hussain’s “nudes” are pretty mild, as nudes go, and that anyone who takes exception to them doesn’t have enough business of their own to keep them out of mischief, such as giving old painters a hard time. “If thine eye offend thee, pluck it out,” seems to be an axiom that they’ve never heard, and need to; it’s called “tolerance,” of which “busy-bodying” is the worst enemy.

Hussain seems to subscribe to the “Picasso” school of artistic style, a very non-realistic method of delivery which, if you’ve noticed, is neutralized enough for the “big-money” art game (big money doesn’t generally like art with realistic, unmistakable and unambiguous symbolism–far preferring objects that are abstract and therefor subject to vaguer interpretations, rendering their high-dollar purchases thereof much less committal, and superimposing a “money” game upon the “art” game–this stuff isn’t “art,” it’s “money–” and applying a false value to the art that has nothing to do with its true value and the artist’s intentions, which is intrinsic to the artwork itself and what it says, or possibly trying to buy their way in to something more lasting than themselves, in a way that is unfortunately subversive of the art. Money has nothing to do with the creation of art; that’s a later development, if ever. Big money doesn’t like people comprehending too much, either; the masses are so much more controllable when they are in the dark about reality and truth.)

Realistic imagery requires much more precise comprehension and skill, too–you have to be able to really see and understand what you’re looking at and trying to say, and learn how to draw accurately. It occurs to me that maybe Hussain got into trouble because, deliberately or not, he didn’t do a realistic ENOUGH job of his subject matters.

Standards of artistic merit and marketing aside, it is easy to see that it is God Who has endowed Mr. Hussain with his Gift, and not any human agent, therefore it is not within the authority of any human agent to chastise him, but God’s alone. If anyone doesn’t like any artist’s work, no one is twisting their necks to force them to look at it, or buy it, and maybe, MAYbe, if they try really, really hard, they MIGHT be able to learn to paint themselves, and do sterilized subjects that their biased minds or immature sensitivities can handle more easily, like landscapes and still-lifes, maybe, even though I’ve always considered those as merely background filler.

I’ve always felt that those who are roused to lust or anger by the sight of graphic nudes–even the very wildest of photographic pornography– lack self-control, self-restraint or the simple comprehension that they are looking at mere impressions of reality and not reality itself, (we) artists’ pitiful attempts to emulate, and thereby worship, the work of the Hand of Almighty God, Himself, Who made it all, for real (and will be making much, much more, that only our descendants will see, in their times.)

Shakir Lakhani, female nudity is not an essential part of Hindu culture; People like you cook up stories. Yes there is one temple which depicts nudity in Kujarao but it does not depict any goddess nude, try to include it is your research.

Regarding the disappearances of 100 million Muslims, I am sure this data is wrong, yes people do disappear but and Muslims have their share in it. You should probably start your research from a terrorist camp next door; you will be able to find a significant part of people who have disappeared.

Regarding Hussein, he has misused his age and freedom of expression for mentally harming others, No one has threatened his life, considering what he has cone that’s surprising, and surprises of such sort happen in India only. He is a liar and he is a thief.

All the best with your propaganda any way….

Hats off to the old guy, he’s ninety-five years old–seen it all and knows it all. Ha-ha! If anyone thinks they can crack his old nut, they need to think again. 🙂

Maddie: re. M. f. Hussain, please visit “http://www.groundreport.com/Arts_and_Culture/Apex-Court-Quashes-All-Proceedings-Against-M-F-Hus/2868959”, you will find that the supreme Court quashed all cases against Hussain. Please also remember that female nudity is an essential part of Hindu culture (if not religion), there are many temples and sites in India which depict nude Hindu goddesses. why don’t you go and demolish those temples? Secondly, Muslims, Christians and Sikhs have been massacred recently in India, you can’t deny it. Thirdly, as I told you, I’m researching on the disappearance of 100 million Indian Muslims, if I’m not able to prove it, I’ll take back my words. Finally, if you think talking about these things does not promote friendly relations between the two peoples, you’re wrong. It’s only by repeating these facts that you ensure that such incidents do not occur again. However, I’m really scared that the Indian people will prove their bigotry by electing that mass murderer Narendra Modi as prime minister (anything is possible in India).

    @ Shakir

I will repeat my comments from another article where we were debating this issue…

M F Hussain fled India to avoid the threat of Hindu extremists…TRUE…but his crime was not that he was a muslim…his offence was that he painted naked pictures of Hindu goddesses (I think you should do ur research and please provide the correct and complete facts)…

And India is not the only place where religious intolerance is so high….remember what was the reaction after the Danish newspaper cartoon???…obviously, no one would like their religious figures to be ridiculed…whether it be a Hindu or a Muslim…

For everyone reading this article and the comments, Shakir has commented in one of his articles stating that
“A hundred million Indian Muslims have simply disappeared”
That’s just under 10% of India’s population…that would be some phenomenon!!!

1 out of every 10 persons in India “suddenly disappears”…..WHOOOP…..gone!

He also said “muslims in India are killed before the age of 30, they do odd jobs or are self-employed”

However, even after repeatedly asking where does he get this negative feelings from, he has avoided my comments and has not answered.

“India is a country where Muslims, Sikhs and Christians are routinely slaughtered”

Shakir bhai, we do not have Colosseums where we pit people of different religion and watch them slaughter.

Our children in schools do not sit in different rows for Hindus, Muslims and Christians.

When they play cricket in building compounds, they do not have teams of Hindus and Muslims.

During lunch in office we do not have specific tables allocated to Muslims and others reserved for Hindus.

Our supermarkets do not have special cashiers for Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs or Christians.

In our national cricket team, players do not share rooms based on their religions.

In corporate offices, promotions aren’t granted based on your religion.

Muslims, Christians, or Sikhs do not pay any extra fare while traveling in Buses or Trains.

Electricity & Water isn’t cheaper for Hindus as compared to others.

Our movies aren’t declared hits based on the religion of the star casts.

Shakir bhai, Indians and Pakistanis do have mis-understandings, but with such statements, you are only instigating Pakistanis against India and angering Indians against Pakistan.

Please read your own article and then decide if you have in any way contributed even a bit towards improving the feelings of one of our nations towards the other by your comments.

To all the other Pakistanis reading this, I will be highly obliged if any one of you can explain to this person, that it is due to comments like these, made by senseless people from both sides, that Indians and Pakistanis have been at loggerheads for the past 63 years.
