Indians don’t like Slumdog Millionaire

Indians have protested against the award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire because it shows the real face of India. The film has shown the conditions under which most Indians live (in grinding poverty and filth). Several hundred people attacked a cinema house in Patna, protesting at the title of the film. About 40 Mumbai slum dwellers, organized by a social activist, held up banners reading “Poverty for Sale” and “I am not a dog” outside the home of Anil Kapoor, one of the film’s stars. Film star Amitabh Bachan also accused the film makers of portraying India as a “third-world, dirty, underbelly developing nation”.

I don’t know why he was offended. Four out of ten Indians go to bed hungry every night. The scenes that we see in Indian movies and tele-plays which show men and women always enjoying life do not depict the real India. The real India is in the slums, where the streets are filled with shit and the air stinks of urine. It’s time for Indian leaders to concentrate on improving the living standards of the starving population of India and not to spend on projects like sending rockets to the moon.

Pak today you have surrendered to Taliban, tomorrow this bug will eat you and you will be the Afghanistan II.
Look at India we have got the Worlds confidence and have the nuclear treaty signed with US and England plays cricket just after the Mumbai aftermath. I feel sorry for you guys as once upon a time we shared good moments together but today you are ruining and no one can help you till you accept the truth and throw away your mullahs and fanatism.

I know you Paki cowards will not publish the truth anyways you admin will get to read my earlier posts and you will burn of frustration as you know the reality and this act of yours critisising India is to express your frustration.
What a pity, you live today with Swat and still you have balls to talk on India. Who in the world wants to play cricket in Pak and your players beg to play in IPL… hahaha die of jealousy thats what alah will bless you with if you deny the truth…

Pak dont die of jealousy… Look at Swat… what more you guys need…
In India we do have poverty, so in Pakistan.
In Pak you have Swat, Insha Allah we dont have.
Anyways its wrong to compare India to Pak as we dwell as an emerging supperpower where as you are the haven of terrorism and a crippled economy begging to other country for your survival.
Today as an indian i can only pitty your situation and say this: “Pak bro, dont feel jealouse rather get inspired by India and throw away your fanatism and give up on Kashmir 😉 you will never get it.

@Sanjay: you’re wrong about fearing execution in Pakistan for expressing dissenting views. I read Indian papers regularly online, and I also watch Indian TV channels. Believe me, there is greater freedom of expression in Pakistan than in India. We have world class writers in English, we have critics who literally tear politicians to pieces in the media and even Indian writers have said this is not possible in India. If you don’t believe me, watch Pakistani TV channels (like GEO) or read newspapers like DAWN or The News.

    Shakir Lakhani,

I am Indian. I also feel for the country but as you have mentioned, we need to come out of this false dream which Bollywood provides.
Good luck to a handful of people who have made the Top 10 Billionaire’s list worldwide……. but for the rest of the millions, life is difficult.
I do not think for a minute that a country like India has the capability of achieving standards to countries which are considered advanced economies.
According to the International Monetary Fund the following 31 countries are classified as “advanced economies:”
    • Australia • Iceland • San Marino • Austria • Ireland • Singapore • Belgium • Israel • Slovenia • Canada • Italy • South Korea • Cyprus • Japan • Spain
    • Denmark • Luxembourg •Sweden •Finland •Netherlands • Switzerland • France • New Zealand • Taiwan • Germany
    • Norway • United Kingdom • Greece • Portugal • United States • Hong Kong
What are we to be proud about? The Past……. I feel that is the mind-set at the moment. Historically, we have a lot to be proud about………… inventing the number zero, having the first university, doing reconstructive surgery etc. But it is also true that historically, our education was geared towards religious studies. In the scientific arena, besides astronomy and other irrelevant subjects which does not bring economic progress to people, true progress has come about in the last 200 years with the industrial revolution etc.
It is true that the “Whites” have stolen land and have progressed in the process, however, all their progress cannot be attributed to stolen land or so forth. The nature of a “White” person is being adventurous, exploring, progressive etc. In comparison, we Indians hold back due to traditions, religious beliefs and dogma.
I suppose thats why in the last ten years, China was able to progress economically, considering that the population difference between india was minimal.
We indians hold the world record for corruption, religious dogma, and the best of all, the caste system. We love to blame others for our problems, only because it makes us feel good. But look at the racism within us…….
On a positive note, my people has the freedom to express themselves.
Had I said these things in Pakistan ( a country within a country…hahaha) i would have been executed.

    cheers

    Sanjay.

@Sanjay, if you’re an Indian (as your name suggests), I’m amazed at your reaction. Normally Indians are terribly upset when anyone tells them the truth about their country. I fervently wish there were many more Indians like you!

    Shakir Lakhani,

Let me quote what you have written:

“The real India is in the slums, where the streets are filled with shit and the air stinks of urine”.

You are absolutely right. The fact of the matter is that no one wants to hear the truth. I think Indians should stop dreaming , and now, instead of awaking to freedom, awake to reality!

    cheers

these hindu nationalists are very funny characters….

maybe they should be men and face the real india…..most of it is rural.

They will gladly call us ”backwards Pakis” when in fact it is their own india where 40% of the population lives below poverty line

and by ‘poverty line’ –they dont use the World Bank standard (less than a dollar per day)………

    they use indian standard

i.e. 40% indians earn less than rs. 30 per day.

Why dont they just do more to promote even growth, rather than keeping dalits living in their own sewage.

    its very strange.

Waat laga di hum indians ki, phard daali aisa movie banakay..idhar hum itna goshna kar k drama banata osmai crores ka bat bat kar kar k dunya ko ch***ya banata udhar boyle ney slum ko dikhaya aur humko dabaya!!

until recently, they were even importing Pakistani actors (they like Lahori Urdu as it flows much better) –even Pathaan actors.

I think it goes down to inferiority complex that is deep-rooted in a caste-based society

they want to show the world that they are developed. One must remember the facts though. There are areas in and around mombai that dont even have sewage lines and piped gas. Forget the rural areas!

i hear its a very strong film though…and even though i refuse to watch bhindian films, this may be worth it.
