Indian nuclear weapons in danger

The news that someone deliberately caused a leak in an Indian nuclear plant and diverted tritium into a water cooler is most disturbing. It should be remembered that a Hindu fundamentalist regime in India started the nuclear race in the subcontinent. Now it is evident that India, with its 836 million desperately poor people living on only forty cents a day, is at high risk of having its nuclear arsenal being taken over by naxal and other terrorists. Something needs to be done urgently to save India’s weapons of mass destruction from being misused.

The world media should note that Indians can’t take care of their own nuclear facilities, and with so many terrorists living in that country, any day some mad Hindu fundamentalist will capture its nuclear weapons. It is urgently necessary to put India’s nuclear weapons under the control of the U.N.

All employees at India’s nuclear power plants should be thoroughly vetted to ensure they do not have ties to terrorist groups like the Shiv Sena. We should not forget that Hindu fundamentalists hate Muslims very much (they pulled the Babri Masjid down just to win an election). The minute they get hold of an atom bomb, the first thing they’ll try to do is to drop it on Pakistan or any Muslim locality in India.

Note: A media report on the issue is available here.

The problem is that indians would never leave any opportunity to defame Pakistan and flaunt their intellect left right and center when we are in hot waters. so what if US has left us for global war and joined hands with you for a while, lets see how long you keep away from this hero turned villain turned hero so on and so forth policy by america, IAEA, UN, WB all that. They are not looking at Indian safety of nukes right now they are just out to trip us so u guys sit tight and enjoy the show. Besides if there was a leak so there was and this time it was India whats their to be so jumpy and shocked about trying once again to turn it somehow or another as if its Pakistan fault that indian nuke plant leaked. OMG! how can the discussion be turned towards AQ khan lolz … come on now be a good sport and admit it that all is not well under the incredible India slogan. Or wait for your turn to be tagged as villains.

Indeed India, Pakistan and Israel have not signed the biased NPT, good for them. I have no issues with Pakistan getting the nuclear technology but the question here is of irresponsible proliferation, for which you need to understand the difference between developing nuclear weapons and proliferation.

Pakistan – AQK have passed nuclear weapons technology to countries which have signed up NPT as non-nuclear weapons powers. You are saying that Pakistan proliferated but it is not illegal? Yes it is, knowingly helping some country break the law and pass on a technology which can kill millions is priliferation and a criminal act. It is an act against the world community. I don’t think India has done something like this.

Moving to your assumption that India was helped by Russia in developing nuclear weapons. Though it is easy to surmise this based on the friendly relations between the two countries, do you have any proof of it? On the other hand AQK was named in the theft of nuclear technology from The Netherlands and he admitted to it later. There is a clear difference.

Lastly the question of AQK being handed over to USA, I don’t think it is a legal issue, the fact is Pakistani state has simply refused to cooperate with the world community in proving answers to this whole scam. I can surmise very easily here that, it is because AQK did what was asked to be done by his masters in the government and military. Therefore in fact I don’t even think that interrogating AQK is required because the facts of the matter are too obvious.

I can understand that AQK is a hero in Pakistan and he should be because he did exactly what was needed by Pakistan, be it theft of technology or smuggling to other rogue nations. He did his duty. The problem is not AQK, it is the role of your state and military in taking an illegal approach to acquire it and to proliferate it.

that’s why the Americans have not been able to get their hands on the man who developed Pakistan’s atom bomb.

is it shame to mention name Abdul Qadeer Khan? and why americans wants their hands on him?

as for as indian nuclear scientist are concern from homi bhabha to raja ramanna all are internationally acclaimed for their work and have honored by IAEA!

so, have you see the difference? both indian and pakistani nuclear scientists are internationally demanded one, but, but for the very different reason.

i heard the word jive jive pakistan! no.. no.. it’s qadir khan! and seems sound coming from LeT bastion, think they have read your post are about to march towards indian nuclear establishment to save it from hindu fundamentalist!

@Hamid, please let us know more about other persons whom you regard most.

@ Hend: one of the bye-products of a nuclear plant is plutonium (which was used by India in its 1974 explosion in violation of an agreement with the Canadian supplier of the plant). As for proliferation, how do you think India and Israel developed nuclear weapons? It’s well-known that Israel got the technology from U.S. sources, while India was helped by Russia. Furthermore, since Pakistan had not signed the NPT (and has still not signed it, like India), even if it did indulge in proliferation it was not illegal. And that’s why the Americans have not been able to get their hands on the man who developed Pakistan’s atom bomb.

As an engineer you should know that to make a nuclear bomb the enrichment level required for fissile material is quite high compared to that required in a nuclear power. Russian disaster was not a nuclear explosion, it was due to collapse of the core and resulting radiation leak. Please understand these two completely different things.

Dismal safety standards at Indian plants? What are you talking about? And how exactly does an accident or sabotage at a power plant make India an unsafe nuclear weapons state?

I think you are confusing this issue with the argument about Pakistani nuclear weapons, which is about the danger of those falling in the hands of fundamentalists and additionally the track record of proliferation by passing on the weapons technology to other countries. I am not sure if you understand the seriousness of the latter violation/ criminal act.

@ Hend: as an engineer who’s studied nuclear science, I know that the difference between a nuclear power plant and a nuclear bomb is that the bomb’s destructive power is due to uncontrolled fission of uranium (in nuclear power plants, the fission is under human control). It’s not very difficult for a nuclear power plant to be converted into a nuclear bomb (this happened accidentally in Chernobyl). The dismal safety standards at the Indian nuclear plant proves that Indians cannot be trusted with nuclear weapons.

I think you have misinterpreted the issue.

Ofcourse as usual you have also not let go of the opprtunity to post mis-represent the facts in your first paragraph but that is a separate issue.

Nuclear plant does not mean nuclear weapons. Most of the nuclear plants are for power generation purposes. So your post is in vain.

my concern is what if these weapons get to the terrorists? They can misue it like they have been doing damaging control through media too!! So praise the Pakistan army and support them so we all as one united nation can de stabilize the extremists.
