Get rid of Diabetes: Drink Cow Piss!

I swear I’m not making this up. Extremist Hindus are promoting cow urine as a cure for diabetes and other diseases. This is from an article in the Hindustan Times of 4th November 2006 entitled “Hindus plan cow urine drink to rival Western sodas”, emailed to me by a friend:

A hardliner Hindu organization, known for its opposition to “corrupting” Western food imports, is planning to launch a new soft drink made from cow’s urine, often seen as sacred in parts of India. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), or National Volunteer Corps, said the bovine beverage is undergoing laboratory tests for the next 2 to 3 months but did not give a specific date for its commercial release.

The flavour is not yet known, but the RSS said the liquid produced by Hinduism’s revered holy cows is being mixed with products such as aloe vera and gooseberry to fight diseases such as diabetes and cancer. “Cow urine offers a cure for around 70 to 80 incurable diseases like diabetes. All are curable by cow urine,” Om Prakash, the head of the RSS Cow Protection Department, told Reuters by phone

This is from a country which recently claimed that it was building a ten dollar laptop, then backed out. It is also going to launch a 2000 dollar car, which will probably seat only two people and will need extensive repairs after running a thousand kilometers.

    @Pooja, Hi again,

    Okay you wanted to have an intellectual debate or conversation, so let’s have one at your level.

    I’m sorry if I offended you, that certainly was not my intention: trust me it was not. The point I was trying to make was that one should face the facts, rather than deny or ignore them, and that goes for Indians and Pakistanis. I for one, do not think that Pakistanis are perfect, far from it, but at the same time neither are Indians, far from it.

    Anyway I digress, the point I was making was that, the story about drinking cow piss was not a story made up by some Pakistani. I’m sure you would have read it many times in Indian newspapers of the benefits of drinking cow piss. Actually my point was that one should not be so sensitive, I would certainly not blame you or any Indian, if you were offended by a story that was not true, alas in this case it was.

    Furthermore the point about the slumdog, though I said it tongue in cheek – and I’m sorry for that, was similar in nature, in so far as, highlighting the sensitivities of Indian’s, I hasten to add not all Indians subscribe to such emotions, when one comes across a true portrayal of sad and dismal conditions of the poor Indians living in the Slums of Mumbai.

    Let’s not please hide the facts away, the best approach would be to highlight, accept that something is really wrong, and work towards reforms that incorporate the aspirations and the dreams of people who are down trodden and marginalised in the Indian society. Incidentally that also applies to Pakistan. But please do note that being global and having global economic might does not mean that more than 90% of the population should just about survive, now, the question is; is this by design or by malicious intent of the minority or by the Darwinian Theory of survival of the “fittest” and greed?

    I dare to argue that it is greed based on religious, cultural, social, or traditional inequities between and within the Indian society. The important point here is focus on these issues and you will start to realise and acknowledge where the problem lies.

    @ Mohammad

    So now, when I have expressed my lack of interest in arguing with Mr. Lakhani, there comes his another saviour in your guise. Well, at least from generalised “Indians’ you have narrowed it down to ‘some members of Indian society’. I like that shift!

    For the sake of a healthy argument, I for the last time deny the sanctity of this information. But to you all, it seems bashing India in any form is a favourite pastime. Why not keep this up!! After all as I said earlier, Ignornace is bliss. May you all remain blissfully ignorant ever after!!!

    As for me, I do not think that you guys are in the habit of clean, fact based, unbiased and ethical argument et al. Hence, do not wish to continue any form of discussions with you. Hope that’s crystal clear by now.

    @Pooja, Hey!

    I just read the article at the Independent website, are you saying that they are talking cow piss?

    What facts are you referring to? Mr. Lakani is not ignorant of the fact that in India a Cow is considered sacred, and some members of the Indian society consider Cow piss and Shit to be Holy and pure, and dare to indulge in drinking and perhaps eating the stuff (Actually the eating part I don’t know about, so perhaps you can shed some light on this). Anyway, Is this not true? so let’s please not get sensitive about things, facts are facts and there should be no argument about that.

    Just to change the subject a little, are also sensitive about the slum dogs of Mumbai? I’d be interested to hear your views on this one.

    Peace.

    @Shakir Lakhani:

    Well, I always knew you wount have the ethics to argue in a logical manner and you proved it. Uttering such things suits you well!!

    Carry on!!!

    Well, Pooja, you’re welcome to eat or drink anything which contains cow piss or cow shit, just don’t consider us inferior because we don’t eat or drink such stuff.

    All I can say is prior to posting any thing on your site, do get your facts and figures right. Just coz one ‘supposedly’ Indian woman told you so, you belived it. I can tell you a zillion things which may not be true, are you going to publish them all? May be you will, coz you take a deep interest and draw immense happiness in bothering about (less than) trivial issues, may be this is your higher purpose, but now after listening to your reasons, I do not feel you are intellectually suitable enough to even argue with me on this. Have a few Paki frens whom I used think represent the youth in Pakistan…Like us, Indians. But Now, I understand why they are no longer residing there. Keep thinking what Indians eat and drink. You may not get the chance of knowing the truth in this life at least. Ignorance is Bliss after all!!!

    @Pooja: please tell us where exactly I have lied in the above post. We had sometime back on this blog an Indian woman who said that cow shit is very pure. At least we’re much more advanced than you are: we don’t like to eat and drink what comes directly out of any animal!

    @Pooja: Good for you to come here as you may get some enlightenment.

    Here are some of the “reliable” sources that published this news:

    The Independent: http://tinyurl.com/aesy5q

    Huffington Post: http://tinyurl.com/brqh7s – they call it Gau Jal (Cow Water), an alternate to Coke 🙂

    Well, I dunno how I came on to this site, may be via following blogs, but this is the one of the most ridiculous post I have ever seen. Shakir Lakhani, you need to seriously consider whether you are suitable for writing et al?

    Mud slinging topped with lying through teeth seems to be your favourite pastime. Pakistan has people like you, now I no more wonder why is it lagging so behind in all aspects (economic, social upliftment, education, morality etc. to name a few). I have no doubts now. It suits you guys well. Liars after all have no further consequence. May God give you some wisdom!!!
