17000 Runs in ODIs – A landmark achievement of Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar, left, gestures after scoring 150 runs during the fifth one-day international cricket match between India and Australia in Hyderabad, India,.jpgMaster blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who is a few weeks away from completing 20 years as an Indian player, is one of the senior-most players on the international circuit. Over the last couple of years, he opted out of Twenty20 internationals to focus on the game’s longer formats. He has, however, participated in both seasons of the IPL, as captain of the Mumbai Indians franchise.

The 36-year-old, rated as the world’s best batsman after Australian legend Sir Donald Bradman, scored the requisite seven runs to put another feather in his cap by reaching landmark of 17000 runs in one day internationals playing against Australia in the 5th ODI of seven matches Hero Honda Cup 2009 at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. The Indian batting legend has 44 One-day hundreds and 91 ODI fifties under his belt.

Tendulkar’s wait to reach the 17,000-run mark in One-dayers continued in Mohali as he missed the milestone by just seven runs after getting dismissed for 40 on a dubious decision in the fourth ODI against Australia.

The cricketing genius has now set in a record that will not be easy to match up in these days of flourishing T20 cricket but performances like this beyond doubt ensure that One day cricket is still alive.

Let us not lose site of the fact that Australia won the series on Indian homeground with a B team. All their leading bowlers like Lee, Siddle and Johnson (partly) were missing. Even some batsmen like Clarke were missing. The great aging Ponting performed in every match as a batman and captain. Hats off to him. And India? they are known to run when the ball moves around a bit, exactly what happened in Guwahati, a little seam movement and they lost in half hour.

    @ shakir saab,

based on the Muslim population of India in 1947 and 1998 you assume that there are 100 million Muslims missing in India, who either killed or converted!

i wonder why you never assume that either they could been taken by the aliens!

i request you to rewrite that article on chowrangi, because i know that chowrangi is far more popular than the newspaper on which your article published.

as far as your rich and poor relatives are concern, when they tell you that muslims are badly treated in india, what you tell them that they live in paradise called pakistan!

shakir saab, tell you the truth, that no matter how badly muslims are treated in india, if you let us believe, not even a single muslim will migrate to pakistan, on the contrary just check how many pakistani national missing in india, who used to come during cricket match, or the other occasion.

@ confused indian: you’re the one who’s misinformed.I wrote some years ago (based on the Muslim population of India in 1947 and 1998) that there are 100 million Muslims missing in India (either they were killed or converted). I may have the newspaper clipping of the article in a file somewhere. Secondly, I also have some rich relatives in India whose parents didn’t migrate to Pakistan in 1947 for personal reasons. They also tell me that the condition of Indian Muslims is very bad. Muslims throughout the world know this and send millions every year in charity to save poor Indian Muslims from starvation.

    @ shakir saab,

now i understand the source of your misinformation, poor relatives who live in india!

i am quite sure that they not only poor but illiterate also (sorry, if it hurt, but that’s irony of most muslims live in india as well as pakistan and bangladesh). so why blame hindu.

hend can tell you the truth, and you can trust him if you trust your indian relatives. and if you have high approach in india ask kalam saab.

sadly i can’t find online version of an article published in the hitvada, the central india’s leading english daily, written by a allahabadi muslim, who thanked his parents for putting cold feet when time to move pakistan.

as far as hindu conversion is goes, you are totally wrong. in it’s 5000 year (probably more) old history there were not a single incident of the this kind. have guts to show a authenticate article on that (not talking about re-conversion!).

@ confused indian: my generation did not create Pakistan, I was only 3 years old at the time of Partition. But let me tell you that Pakistan is the greatest achievement of Muslims in modern times. If India had not been divided, many Indian Muslims would have forcibly been converted by Hindu extremists, while the rest would’ve had to live in ghettos doing dirty jobs (which are presently being done by Dalits). Even today, except in the movie industry, Indian Muslims can’t get good jobs. I know all this because I have many poor relatives in India.

    @ shakir saab,

by the way, have you asked you son or daughter-in-law what they want their children to be, and why not directly ask your grandchildren what they like to be.

believe, answer will be long lasting one.

actually shakir saab, problem is not with hindu or muslim but with generation, generation of yours. which divided india on the pretext that muslims will be far more happy without hindu.

after achieving pakistan you/your generation thought you/they have achieve everything, forgetting that it was just beginning. and the result, person who born after independent like hamid, yusha, momina (sorry for picking you up, dear) feel lost and are unable to find way to clear the mess you/your generation have created.

even after creating all these mess you/your generation still does not understand their sin and try to mess ever further.

    umm…. serious entertainment. isn’t it!

I believe some Hindus consider him a god. It won’t be long before temples in his name are built and women who want their sons to be test cricketers will pray there!
