17000 Runs in ODIs – A landmark achievement of Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar, left, gestures after scoring 150 runs during the fifth one-day international cricket match between India and Australia in Hyderabad, India,.jpgMaster blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who is a few weeks away from completing 20 years as an Indian player, is one of the senior-most players on the international circuit. Over the last couple of years, he opted out of Twenty20 internationals to focus on the game’s longer formats. He has, however, participated in both seasons of the IPL, as captain of the Mumbai Indians franchise.

The 36-year-old, rated as the world’s best batsman after Australian legend Sir Donald Bradman, scored the requisite seven runs to put another feather in his cap by reaching landmark of 17000 runs in one day internationals playing against Australia in the 5th ODI of seven matches Hero Honda Cup 2009 at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. The Indian batting legend has 44 One-day hundreds and 91 ODI fifties under his belt.

Tendulkar’s wait to reach the 17,000-run mark in One-dayers continued in Mohali as he missed the milestone by just seven runs after getting dismissed for 40 on a dubious decision in the fourth ODI against Australia.

The cricketing genius has now set in a record that will not be easy to match up in these days of flourishing T20 cricket but performances like this beyond doubt ensure that One day cricket is still alive.

Finally as for Tendulkar, I think players like him, Inzamam, Miandad, Gavaskar, Imran, Akram, Sehwag etc. don’t just belong to their own countries but they belong to the entire sub-continent. Even if no one agrees, I like to believe that Younis Khan belongs as much to me as to you, he is a statesman of this region now.

I am kind of tired with this India v/s Pakistan and Hindu v/s Muslim.

All these crazy mind boggling fake allegations like 100 million Muslims missing in India do not need any response. There are many wrong assumptions and a lot of misinformation about each other in both the countries, the more I visit this site the more I feel we are very much like each other. We should love each other and enjoy each other’s company and views.
