World Teachers’ Day has been commemorated on October 5 since 1994 when it was created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for teachers all over the world. The theme for this year’s World Teachers’ Day is “Build the future: invest in teachers nowâ€. According to UNESCO, “World Teachers’ Day remembers the anniversary of the signing in 1966 of the UNESCO and ILO recommendation regarding the ‘status of teachers’. This day also brings attention to the global problem of the shortage of teachers and the challenges of being a teacher today.â€
Over 100 countries observe World Teachers’ Day. The efforts of Education International and its 401 member organizations have contributed to this widely spread recognition. Every year, EI launches a public awareness campaign to highlight the contributions of the teaching profession.
As a token of appreciation The Sindh Directorate of Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education will reward two teachers (One Male & One Female), for showing best performance, from each District, with a certificate of appreciation and shield on occasion of World Teachers’ Day as reported by The Nation. It will be a step in right direction urging teachers to perform their duties with more passion and zeal.
The main purpose of World Teachers’ Day is to build peace in the minds of human beings through education. This is why the day is aimed to mobilize support for teachers. Today we too in Pakistan join hands with the world community in paying homage and respect to our teachers, who in so many ways have made a difference in our lives. Salute to our spiritual parents who had made a priceless contribution in our lives.
