Wonders of Encouragment

We can make or break the people at any stage of our life if we have a power to do so. We can elevate a child to new sublime heights, if we pat him on the shoulder, and we can really make someone skilled by just telling him that he or she has got the potential. People need to be patted, and they need to be encouraged and stimulate. If the mobilization and motivation coupled with approval comes from a credible and authentic source, than only those words are suffice to give someone a head start in the respective field.

For instance, I had a friend who was a very talented amateur software developer. He once took part in a software development contest. All the judges just ignored him. One even asked him to quit programming. Only one judge, who himself was a head programmer in Microsoft, told him that he programmed even better than him. Only those words made my friend a leading programmer in his field.

Some positive words can do wonders for someone. Discouragement is a killer. I have a cousin, who shifted over to United States some years back, where he got married. He admitted his son in a US school. In that school, children used to go to the office of Principal in the morning and they would inquire from their Principal,” How are you doing Mrs. Patterson?”, and in return the Principal would happily greet them and sometimes give them candies and cookies.

My cousin shifted back to Pakistan last month, and he admitted his son into a very posh school of Islamabad. On his first day at school, his son went straight to the Principal office in the morning and said,” How are you doing Mrs. Qureshi?”. Mrs. Qureshi went crazy with anger. She shouted in her stern voice, “O you little devil, how dare you call me Mrs. Qureshi, and how dare you enter into my office, get out from here at once.” His son is so terrified now, he doesn’t even greet the family members, and he is flunking all the tests, even the tests of English.

In Pakistan, our attitude is very negative. We use to pull the legs of others, and we cannot really see other succeeding in life. We are very jealous lot, and we are very intolerant too. If we want to get civilized, then we need to change our attitude really.
