General (r) Pervez Musharraf must be ruing the time when he shed his second skin, as everything was attached to his Khaki, and as soon as the uniform was gone, everything started crumbling and in less than a year, everything erected by Musharraf came crushing down.
Not only the King’s party formulated by Asif Ali Zardari got crushed by the tsunami of wrath of seething people, and also the name of Musharraf was dragged down on the streets. He was humiliated, rejected, thrashed and abused by everyone and yet he hanged on to the power well after the elections on 18th February and then he was forcibly removed from the presidential palace.
General Musharraf made every strive to delay shedding the uniform and even went back on his promise to the six-party religious alliance, MMA, to do so as part of a deal. It was way back in 2004, but then the real contours in the solid Musharraf iron clad rule appeared then and then there never was a turning back.
Musharraf’s lust for power kept pushing him to back out of promises and take impulsive actions such as the imposition of Emergency Rule on November 3 last year and demanding resignation from Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry earlier on March 9. When he tried to subjugate the chief justice, all hell broke loose and that was what cost him his rule ultimately.
