Welfare Schemes for Women While Minister for Women Development is required

The government is quite pro active regarding women development and women empowerment as far as the welfare schemes for women are concerned. Whether it is the issue of first women speaker national assembly or first ever budget speech by a woman or introduction of Benazir Income Support Programme for poor women, it is evident that women input & welfare has high precedence in the eyes of government. To add more to the credit government has announced another welfare scheme, the Benazir Behan Basti Programme (BBBP), for poor women.

President Asif Ali Zardari announced this new scheme in a meeting with Sindh government officials at the Bilawal House directing the provincial authorities to launch the programme from Sindh. Under the new scheme, poor women holding Benazir Income Support Programme cards will be given land by the government. Financial assistance would be sought from the Friends of Democratic Pakistan Forum for this scheme.

It is interesting to bring to light that despite being vigorous about women rights & Development, Currently the charge for Minister of Women Development is Vacant in Pakistan

We had a serious welfare program in the US for many years, that’s still going on but somewhat altered. It held its recipients down and created a class of people very disliked by taxpayers. It is far, far better to create a job placement system so that the needy can find some pride in earning their own keep and not be burdens on everyone else.

Welfare-receiving women, mostly black, were allowed extra money for every child they had to support. A friend of mine, a magistrate judge in Georgia, once told me of a miscreant Mr. Washington who came before his bench, who, when asked his occupation, replied “I’s a stud.” When directed to explain, it came out Mr. Washington was actually making his living by taking money from welfare women to sire more children for them so they would get more welfare money. The judge “threw the book at him” (gave him the maximum penalty.)

Children raised in the welfare system tend to become welfare recipients–read “burdens on society”–themselves. Our “No Child Left Behind” schooling program has done a little to ameliorate the situation, but not enough. Lowering the educational standards so that black students from such backgrounds can pass has caused many white parents to send their children to schools where there aren’t many blacks. It looks like it will take a long time to fix this.
