From top to bottom, throughout the hierarchy of the present government, everyone is adept in vowing and reiterating the tall claims about doing this and doing that. Hear the harangue of the President Asif Ali Zardari or go through the speech of puppet Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, you will hear the same vows and such is the case with boring speeches of all the stalwarts of the PPP at the national and provincial level.
The peace accord signing in the Malakand Agency is not akin to caving in to the Taliban. It’s not that the ANP, the most secular party in the Pakistan has bowed down to the Taliban, rather they have done what was tried earlier and even the Musharraf the dictator did the same, though he failed miserably because he wasn’t sincere.
But ANP government has also need to rise above the vows and claims. They need to make sure that peace doesn’t taken as the weakness and they must take all the stakeholders on board and maintain the writ of the government in the agency while protecting other regions.
Last but not least, the federal government must not deceive ANP once again.
