Are you a registered voter in Pakistan? ECP displays Voter Lists, offers SMS confirmation

Election Commission of Pakistan SMS for Voter List

For the first time in Pakistan in collaboration with NADRA, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has presented initial draft of computerized voter lists consisting of the names of 80.32 million voters on display centers at more than 50,000 public places all over the country yesterday.

The preliminary electoral rolls will be displayed until March 20 to receive all sorts of claims, corrections and objections of eligible voters. The display centers would remain open from 9.00 AM to 5:00 PM and on Sunday also. Finalization of voter lists will be done afterwards hopefully until May 2012. It is also for the first time that enlistment voters in electoral rolls would continue until the announcement of election schedule.

Computerized Voter lists include names of 47.3 million male and 36.9 million women voters. The eligible voters now have the facility of checking their names in the electoral rolls through SMS by paying Rs 2 per message.

How to verify your registration in the voter lists: To find out whether you are a registered voter or not (that is, eligible to vote in upcoming elections or not) SMS your Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number to 8300 and you will subsequently receive a message in Urdu confirming your registration as well as electoral area, along with the serial number in electoral rolls.

If you are not willing to avail SMS facility you can simply go to your nearest display center to confirm the details.

It is a responsibility of every eligible voter to make sure that his/her name has been registered, and report any discrepancy to the ECP. Remember vote is your power and the building block of democracy. Use it wisely to live well otherwise….samajh to gay hongay aap 🙂
