Would technology be ever able to mimic the real world? The mapping of real world of earth and beyond with the virtual world of internet has remained the most wistful aim of many a researchers. They have been able to replicate the conversational behaviour through sound and picture, but smell is still a very much elusive goal yet to be achieved and mastered.
All the scientists researching this understand quite well that there is something we still haven’t managed to replicate in a meaningful way, even with the highest-resolution video conferencing tools. One theory is that it has something to do with smell. Whatever it is, it exerts a powerful pull on our legacy brain, a brain that still has no idea we aren’t living in caves where human contact and social face-to-face interaction are key to our survival.
I don’t think virtual world would ever be able to replace or exceed the physical world. The virtual world would surely increase its role continuously to facilitate and support the physical world. So we shoudnt be trying to completely, altogether shunning the physical from the virtual, but we should try to keep it hand in hand. Online contact with offline meet-up can do wonders in relations.
