The Truth about Canadian and American Dream

People from all over the world land in America and Canada with degrees from their own countries only to find out that they will be jobless. They work as taxi drivers, in coffee shops, as security guards and live in tiny apartments. They face depression and must work at least 12 hours a day on minimum wage to survive, if they find a minimum wage job that is. A lot of women work in strip clubs and others become prostitutes in Canada and especially in America. Is this the American dream?

Even the education system sucks. Until Grade 10 they go at the pace of a turtle and then suddenly from Grade 11 students find themselves facing their worst nightmare, with immense work overload. In Universities, one semester lasts for four months in Canada. The academic year is only eight months long, which leaves students depressed and suffocated, especially when they work part time to support their education, trying to pay the outrageous tuition fees. School in Canada is free. Awesome. Only to find out that one semester in University costs 3,000 dollars and for those on a student visa, 6,000 dollars.

Lets now talk about religious freedom. Did they not raise a big issue about the head scarf. What happened to religious freedom then? Although in Toronto, which feels like Asia, a bearded man or a burka clad woman can walk the streets freely, in other cities they are stared at with disgust. Religious freedom? Numerous cases have been reported of Musallas being burnt by non-Muslims. Religious freedom?

What I have noticed is that people with their perfect lives go to Canada looking for only Allah knows what, and end up with depression and a list of other (huge) problems. Leaving a good life, a life of satisfaction where a person is practicing Islam, only to go to a place where a person cannot move an inch without indulging in haram, what kind of life does a person hope for? People start their Canadian and American dreams by buying a house and a car on mortgage and then wonder why they are always short of money. This is the hidden law. Just as there is the law of gravity, which cannot be seen but must be obeyed, the law of interest free transactions must also be obeyed.

Children end up with ‘friends’ doing drugs and drinking alcohol. There are daily arguments, where parents without any common sense, want their children to follow the path of morality and spirituality in a place lacking both. People who never thought they would drink end up in bars, people who used to pray end up with girlfriends, people who were faithful to their wives end up with prostitutes. Others end up doing drugs. Some even commit suicide. Is this the Canadian and American Dream?

I understand about the comparaison with the green guy and I’m sorry – but I were serious ๐Ÿ˜‰ It came to me after I wrote it, and my reaction was it will be funny in the worse case, I didn’t expect the offensive way in which it was interpret. Anyway, let’s go over it.

Ok, now, your questions… I don’t tell you right now that I have the perfect responses, but let’s try it.

“have you ever thought why everyone seems to be so depressed in the West?”

Have you ever take a look about depression around the world? With what I’m reading, it is everywhere a “big” issue :

“Depression is the leading cause of disability as measured by YLDs and the 4th leading contributor to the global burden of disease (DALYs) in 2000. By the year 2020, depression i projected to reach 2nd place of the ranking of DALYs calcuated for all ages, both sexes. Today, depression is already the 2nd cause of DALYs in the age category 15-44 years for both sexes combined.” (World Health Organization)
http://www.who.int/mental health/management/depression/definition/en/ (replace the space in the link with an underscore)

I found too this link http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/d/depression/stats-country.htm which containt statistics of depression for each country.
    For the Canada, the estimated is 1,722,917 persons depress for 32,507,8742 population (0,53%);
    For the Pakistan, the estimated is 8,437,406 persons depress for 159,196,336 population (0,53%);

So, there is the same equivalence of depressive persons for each country, I mean 0,53%

“If Canadians in their own country are so despressed, what do you think immigrants go there looking for?”

So Canadians are no much more depressed than another one. But why immigrants come here? Shakir give you already a response (But the difference is that they are not taunted for working as taxi drivers or waiters in New York or Toronto). I can tell you too that if you don’t have money, if you don’t have work, you will have a house anyway and food everytime (you can be legal or illegal, you will have it). You just need to ask at the right person for to have the right information. If you ask to me why I would come in Canada, I would say for the nature and the camping trip… ๐Ÿ˜‰ (But forget me for Ontario, there are too much bugs…).

I would like to go in Pakistan, but should I be scared to go there, and if yes, why?

“Why do you think anti-depressants are a million dollar business in the West?”

It is not the first time I hear this question. But there is something new in your question, it is the “West” at the end… I don’t know if we use more these medicaments here than another place, it is possible because the access to the medicament is easy and relatively cheap.

All my friends and family speak to me like I should not take these pills – I appreciate it. I don’t like to take anything and specially medicament, but the first time I took these pills, let’s me tell you that I was really looking for help, I was so much deeply sad. Note too, I have done lot of search about my medicament, I know what I take now and I thrust it. But I do not thrust any kind of anti-depressors.

“Why is there so much alcohol and drug abuse?”

Hmm, let’s speak about drug first and alcohol after.

I don’t believe that we have more drug abuse here than any others countries. You should know that all the strong drugs here come from countries like Morocco, Afganistan, Colombia, etc. I suspected the people overthere to try it before they send it. About the marijuana, this is not really a drug, i mean we cannot compare it with what you have in afganistan. The effect is very light, it is absolutely impossible to do a overdose of it – else if you try to make a ant smoke, maybe the ant will do an overdose ๐Ÿ˜‰ But I will be true with you, I’m smoking too much and this can bring me more easily to the depression. I’m working on it these days…

About alcohol now. Yes, there are somebodies who abuse of it, like drug. But if you take it with moderation, this is very nice. Like a lot of people here, I was drinking often between 18-25 years old. With the word “often” I mean, it’s a example, every 2 or 4 weeks, a friday night, with your friends, you take some beers… I’m shy, I don’t like to swing – but when I’m drunk, I like it… But I don’t like drink too much, I have already do it a couple of time, and normally you understand after why you should not drink so much.

I believe that we can learn better sometime by doing some mistake (this is true for a lot of context), and we can advise someone about something but if he want do it, let’s him do. (I don’t think it however for drugs which can create dependancie).

“Why is the divorce rate in the so unbelievably high?”

This question is The Question. I’m myself complaint about it and I would like read a book about this… I’m “conventional”, my dream was to have my family, like almost everyone whom I know. I can try to explain it with my view, my opinion… But we have to keep in mind that there can be a lot of differents factors. It can be the influence of the TV with these soap emission which bring people to imagine that all should be perfect and we shouldn’t not have any problem. Actually, when I have a girlfriend, if something go wrong, it is not take a long time before she tell you (or myself) that’s over. Maybe women here can have help more easily too for to leave the house, this is not the same thing if the women NEED her husband for to survive (maybe there can be lot of womens depressives because she don’t like anymore their husbands and she can’t leave).

@ Real: Please understand that comparing a bearded man or a burka clad women with some green antenna guy came of as very offensive. I don’t believe you were serious. You wrote that without even taking a few seconds to think what you were writing about. The Musalla thing does not not happen everywhere, I agree, but it is more common than most people think. What has smoking marijuana got to do with rejecting someone? You can smoke whatever you want. However, have you ever thought why everyone seems to be so depressed in the West? If Canadians in their own country are so despressed, what do you think immigrants go there looking for? Why do you think anti-depressants are a million dollar business in the West? Why is there so much alcohol and drug abuse? Why is the divorce rate in the so unbelievably high? Sir, do you have any answers?

Yusha, have you ever seen a Makrani or a Sheedi (from Karachi) in Lahore or anywhere in Punjab/NWFP? So why are you amazed that Real didn’t see a black man until he was 15? Again, don’t you know that people migrate to other countries because they either don’t feel safe or don’t earn enough to feed themselves and their families? And when they do get accepted in Canada/USA, etc., naturally they have to work hard to survive. But the difference is that they are not taunted for working as taxi drivers or waiters in New York or Toronto. You only notice the small percentage of Pakistanis who take to drinks or have girl friends, but in my opinion, Pakistanis become more religious when they leave Pakistan, in fact they become more civilized as well.

If you want to know about my dysthymia (kind of depression), it’s happen when the mother of my kid left me 6 years ago – I was in love with this girl, I want to have my kid grow up with me… But she left me and I have to respect it… But I’m missing my son, I don’t see him often and I’m sad about it.

    Hi Mohammad,

Your negative comment show me how you misunderstand me. I was serious, my comparaison with the green guy, it was a way to explain that if you see someone which look to something that you have never see… And the first black guy I have see in my life, I was probably 15 years old (now 37..)

About wikipedia… you wrote “numerous cases” – what should we think? Look like it happen often everywhere in Canada – it is not true.

I smoke marijuana, and if you want to know, I’m mentally sick too ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dysthymic_Disorder ) and I get anti-depressor – so much sick that I didn’t work since more than 4 months. Will you reject me because of it?

No one is perfect. Are you allergic to the smile?

@ Ayush: The moment you start exposing the West with their lies and half truths, people like you start pointing fingers at the person’s own country. The fact is that the West cannot be compared with developing countries. No one says, the Pakistani dream. No one says, the Saudi dream. By the way, why did you fill your comment with Islam. Are we discussing Islam here? When people like you have nothing to advance their arguments with, they bring Islam into it. Kind of like Westerners. You are correct in stating that no country is perfect. No one is looking for perfection. It is the immense and vast problems in the West that must be brought out in daylight which make people wonder why they decided to leave their own country in the first place. You actually felt the need to write on Pakistani terrorism. Was that your attempt at humour. I must admit it was a really pathetic one. Do you not know of Western terrorism? The West destroyed Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and a list of other countries and you sit here like a little boy talking to me about Pak terrorism? Little boy, finish your cereal, and then we’ll talk.

@ Ayush: Pakistan does not call people to its country with false promises of a good life only to hand them minimuim wage jobs.

@ Real: I was actually thinking that you were intelligent until now, but that image has been shattered with your foolish comments. Thank you for helping my cause in showing everyone typical Western mentality. First you compare a beared man and a burka clad woman with a green guy with antennas. Is this your realistic example of comparision? Am I supposed to laugh? I mean, you keep apologising for your english and you come up with something so stupid. For me, to call this example stupid would be stupidity in itself since to call your hilarious comparision stupid would be a huge understatement. What did you smoke before writing this comparision? After that you tell me you had never seen a black man. Another joke? I actually burst out laughing when I read that. I must admit, this time it is actually funny. What are you going to say now. Another guy with green antennas. No wait, black antennas, don’t you think? When I said that numerous cases of Musallas being burnt down are reported, I did not get it from Wikipedia. I have lived in Canada, where, I will not reveal. A Musalla was burnt in Ramadan time, showing just how much religious freedom there is. Next year, another Musalla was burnt. How casually Musallas were burnt was actually shocking. I wrote that from persoanl experience, not from Wikipedia. Maybe you got your example about green guy with green antennas from Wikipedia. Maybe all your ridiculous and foolish comments are copied from Wikipedia. Next time you comment, give the source. Please write, I don’t have an original idea in my brain, all my pathetic and ridiculous examples are taken from Wikipedia, or maybe it’s what you smoke daily, in which case I must apologize and say you don’t have to state the source. Just mention what you smoke at the end of every comment.

    Hi Mohammad,

“Although in Toronto, which feels like Asia, a bearded man or a burka clad woman can walk the streets freely, in other cities they are stared at with disgust.”

I know what is it… ๐Ÿ™‚ — Imagine : you see on your street a guy with a green skin and with antenna on his head. What should be your reaction?

I grow up outside Montreal, I’m from a small region and there was only white peoples. First time I saw a black man, I have almost say to myself… oh my god, what is it?

I’m leaving in Montreal since a long time now… and here are so much different people that if someone is green, it’s almost possible that I will not see him ๐Ÿ™‚

But you are right, here you will not find the “perfect freedom”. Each one is different. But we get a kind of education which focus on the world stories from many kind of view (islamist, hindouism, christianism, and so much others) – this probably help us to put down our fear from the unknown. The unknown can bring people to the violence apparently.

“Numerous cases have been reported of Musallas being burnt by non-Muslims.”

I like Wikipedia because you have to put reference when you write something like it ๐Ÿ˜‰ — I would like to know more about it. By the way, an part of an israelis school was burn by extremists in Montreal last year. So yes, we have our extremists too here, but stories relate to it normally over with no dead.

Countries like saudi , U.A.E, dont have their own doctors, engg., what they have is oil on which they want to dictate the world.
ISLAM is one of the worlds best relegion but people like u try to interpret it in ur own way. ISLAM is a right relegion in the hands of wrong people because of which other people following it are embarresed in the whole world…
