The series of violence and terrorism, beginning from Banaras Chowk on Saturday evening, continues so far in various areas of the city. People are scared and the fear mongers are spreading rumors like hell. Nobody is feeling safe and everybody in the Karachi is dreading the return of the ethnic violence which marred the city once.
Thirty-one people have so far been killed in various incidents of firing and violence during the last 40 hours in the metropolis while as many as 100 people sustained injuries and the situation still could not be controlled. Law enforcement agencies have been put on high alert. Schools, colleges and offices are closed and the business is nowhere and the already dilapidated Pakistani economy has come to a grinding halt.
Though the leaders of ANP, MQM and PPP are showing solidarity, the violence against a specific ethnic clan is going on in an organized fashion. Efforts to maintain pace in Karachi initiated by three coalition partners – PPP, MQM and ANP have failed miserably, or more than likely they are not sincere in that.
Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza should forget about his coalition partners and instead of saving his government, he should save Karachi.
