PTA launches service to check how many SIMs are issued in your name

PTA service to find illlegal SIM cards.jpg

Amid rampant grievances of consumers against telecommunication service providers, finally PTA has launched a new service which would enable a mobile users in Pakistan to know all SIM connections details issued against their names by just sending their CNIC number to 668 (The ID card number should be written without “-” and space). The sms will cost only Rs. 2.30.

This would help in detecting real identification of a SIM user. This new service is part of PTA efforts to block all illegal SIMs and clean the data of the mobile phone users.

To block all illegal SIMs issued on your ID card number, you should go to the nearest Customer Care Center of that particular telecom company with your Original ID card and its copy. They will check database with your ID card number and will verify your complaint. After that your have to fill up one simple form and will have to submit it with your ID card copy and within 2 days those SIMs would be blocked.

Chairman PTA Dr Mohammad Yaseen said that ‘PTA is cognizant of grievances of telecom consumers and taking number of steps to resolve their issues. In this regard the PTA has revamped complaint handling mechanism of mobile companies, those of the PTCL and other telecom operators’.

A subscriber can launch a complaint with its relevant operator and in case complaint is not resolved consumer can approach PTA Consumer Cell.

    @ Azhar: I can’t understand your comment about 667. I’ve found that there are two numbers which are in my CNIC but I don’t know the numbers. How can I find out what those numbers are? 668 only tells me that there are 3 numbers registered against my CNIC (although I only have one). Now I want to get those two numbers blocked and take legal action against the persons who used my CNIC without my knowledge to get new mobile connections. How do I proceed?

    This is a great service, there is another service where a user can find under whose name the current number is registered along with the owners NIC number. One simply needs to send a blank sms to ‘667’ and it will inform the user of the details.

    I must also advise every one here that all NIC copies should be crossed with a written reason for submitting of the copy to avoid misuse.

    I must say its a very rational approach that is very helpfull for those whose CNIC’s (or even a photocopy of it) are misused by others ……. well an appreciatbale approach by the side of Cellular Companies and NADRA.

    @Khurram,

    You’re lucky buddy, yesterday my friend checked his status and he found that 19 sims were out on his NIC.

    Today I went with him to customer service centers of Warid and Telenor and was shocked to see that there were many other people who had the same issue.

    And guess what? these stupid services aren’t going to close those SIMs immediately, instead they’re going to send messages to those thieves that they’ll have to submit their own CNIC information if they wanna continue, if they didn’t provided the info, then these Company’s gonna terminate those connections.

    There always had been safe exits for criminals in Pakistan, shame on these Telecommunication companies on issuing 10s of SIMs on a single CNIC number without bothering to confirm, and now not terminating those connections immediately.

    Exactly and it is working quite well also ………many people are complaining against Mobilink though because it had issued a lot of SIMs on fake ID card numbers.
