Petty Politics

Over the course of last sixty years since our independence, Pakistan has fought three wars on its Eastern border with India and also faced dismemberment in East Pakistan, which has now become Bangladesh. However, it is unfortunate that the civil and military leadership of Pakistan learnt no lessons from our painful history.

The on-going tide of terrorism in the country and the recent operations in the FATA, Swat and other areas of the country are reminiscent of the 1971, when the force was used against the Bengalis and the things went out of control, and we lost half of our country. We must not do it again, and we have to keep check on our leaders.

All these leaders who are gathered in the parliament house must come to their senses and instead of scoring political scores, they should be debating like hell to resolve the issue. They must support any move, which will contribute to political stability in Pakistan and they should also refrain from the petty politics.

It is very strange that why a government, which could force Musharraf to resign, was unable to change his policies, and why the Musharraf policies are still reigning high in the country, and why the charge sheet of Musharraf is followed like a guide book by this government?

You can’t compare former East Pakistan with FATA. We did not treat the Bengalis as Pakistanis, we did not let a Bengali become the prime minister of the country. In FATA, we have given them free electricity and have let them do whatever they wanted, yet they gave shelter to foreign militants who now want to take over the country. The militants deserve to be wiped out, and the sooner this is done, the better it is for Pakistan.
