Pakistan cricket team was whitewashed in all three formats of the game in recent Australian tour and it is turning into a suicidal tour for Players. Everything from ball tampering incident to dropped catches happens on the tour. PCB had set up an inquiry committee headed by Wasim Bari to probe the reasons for the disaster.
The committee found the reasons of the loss or not but it did throw cricket into chaos by putting an end to the international careers of former captains. As the committee recommends, PCB daringly and efficiently acts according to it by banning former captain Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan for one-year and fined 2 million rupees each. Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal and Shahid Afridi have been put on trial for six months besides being fined between Rs 2-3 million for indiscipline on the tour. Last but not the least, it also imposes life ban on the Y duo, former captain Younus Khan and Muhammad Yousuf.
Although being criticized by Inzamam-ul-Haq, the decision of PCB has been lauded by former Cricketing giants in following words.
“ A bold decision, it would end players’ power in the teamâ€.
Former captain Zaheer Abbas
“A brave step, It’s a good decision and will go a long way to arrest the continuing decline of Pakistan cricket and improve the state of cricket in Pakistan besides improving the discipline,â€.
Former PCB Chief Selector and leg-spin wizard Abdul Qadir.
On social media real time news giant, Twitter people express their reaction on PCB’s decision in 140 characters.
• Sensational events in Pakistan cricket. Yousuf, Younis not to be picked again; Naved, Malik 1 year ban,Afridi and Akmals on probation plus fine! Harsha Bhogle
• The axing and putting of life bans on Younis and Yousif is bizarre and sad for Pakistan cricket. Phineas Sigubhu
• What’s going on with Pakistan cricket? Everyone’s getting banned and fined. They should just all have a nice sit-down together. Daniel Brigham
• but who’ll penalize and ban the PCB management itself; they struck the bans right at a time when their reputation is alltime low. Syed Aadil Shah
• PCB has the worst cricketing administration. After few months they will revoke the ban. Aarush
Raising many questions on the decision, PCB’s own performance is unsatisfactory too. The imposed penalties are the biggest handed out in almost 10 years, since Justice Qayyum’s report on match-fixing in 2000.
