There are states ineligible to sustain the burden of true democracy and unfortunately Pakistan is one of them. There are a number of factors contributing towards this fact that why Pakistan cannot sustain democracy long enough. Unless people and elected governments work together, true democracy cannot flourish anywhere. Similarly the problem areas in Pakistan are as follow which need to be sorted out:
Psycho-analysis of our nation has proved that we prefer status quo over change. That has largely contributed towards our behavior as a turtle. Even if we are turned up side down and are kept in that position for a while we will prefer to lie up side down rather than changing or challenging the situation. Whenever change is brought about in form of socio economic development, the myths of customs and tradition reject the diversity of the change in the name of honor culture or religion. The political setup is also plagued by same behavioral disorder. Clan family and parochial groups influence the choice of candidates rather than candidates coming up through an institutionalized process of democratic values.
In effect in Pakistan electing a government is like electing an authoritative setup which closely resembles anarchy or dictatorship imposed by us on us. Similarly promises regarding individual, economic and social development had always been made during election campaigns. But history is witness to the fact that nothing has been done or achieved in regard to what ever was thrown as an electioneering slogan.
States don’t deserve democracies that don’t have the power to deal with it.
