My name is Khan – Oh, is it?

Shah Rukh Khan detained on US airport

Not being recognized is a problem Shah Rukh Khan does not encounter very often. On Saturday, however, the 43-year-old Bollywood star, who was on his way to an Independence Day function in Chicago, was detained for close to two hours by immigration authorities at Newark Airport in New Jersey, USA.

Khan said he found the incident “a little embarrassing.”

Khan was waiting for his bags when security officials asked him to accompany them. “I thought it was nice of them to take me to another room,” he said. “But apparently that was a second check. I had my papers in order…I was taken aback.”

Khan said he chose not to say too much to the officials “because I am little worried about Americans as they do have this issue when your name is Islamic.”

“I will take the first flight back to India once my work here is finished,” he added.

The actor was interrogated, his bags checked and he was asked to give names and phone numbers of people he knew in the US. He was not allowed any calls till the interrogation ended. Khan then called the Indian consulate, who secured his release.

Shah Rukh Khan has just finished shooting in the US for his next film, which is about a Muslim man who is subjected to racial profiling in the US. The film is called My name is Khan. The star’s detention has upset his fans, Bollywood and the Indian government. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni suggested an equal and opposite reaction towards Americans visiting India. “I am of the opinion that the way we are frisked, for example I too was frisked, we should do the same to them,” PTI quoted Soni as saying.

India has formally taken up the matter with the US, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vishnu Prakash said in Delhi. US Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer issued a statement saying, “We are trying to ascertain the facts of the case, to understand what took place. Shah Rukh Khan, the actor and global icon, is a very welcome guest in the US. Many Americans love his films.”

momina — what in God’s NAME are you talking about?????

Have you been before to Swat? Army is not terrorizing anybody. The Army Engineer Corps has done magnificent job in reconstruction in those areas. And we are flushing out the criminals and terrorists with the help of the locals.

    Please refrain from nonsense.

General, I don’t agree that banning Indian movies will benefit the country. It will only help the smugglers who will bring DVDs of the movies into Pakistan. Anyway, whether it’s Indian or Western movies or foreign TV channels, these are the things which will help to contain the Taliban/Al-Qaeda from brainwashing more young men and women. I’ve often thought if Qazi Hussain Ahmed and others like him had seen movies in their teens, they wouldn’t have turned out to be so violent.

@ Momina: you appear to be a sympathizer of the Taliban & Al-Qaeda.

@SL: If you want to increase your geography knowledge then, yes Swat is (one of the most beautiful places) in Pukhtunkhwa.

If you want to know if the people of Swat are terrorised by Taliban then, no, they are terrorised by the Pakistani army who are brutally killing them.

Hmm…I will paste some links later…now, I got to rush…

    The taleban have terrorized Pakistan.

as for these indian actors, I don’t care where they were born or who they are. Advani was born in Karachi, does that mean I have to like him?

Bollywood is garbage, and I want it banned from this country. We have our own film industry, we should build on it. No need for indian headache-inducing musicials in which the plots are almost always the same.

    that’s right.

@ Momina: Swat is not in NWFP?

@Lt. Gen.: I know Yusuf Khan is from Pukhtunkhwa but i can’t digest the Shah Rukh part…anyway…anything is possible…

@JKS: I haven’t been to Paradise as yet…though you have to study a great deal of Islaam to know the answer to your question.
However, I do know American Pit Bull Terriers are definitely not in Paradise…

The smileys are six…but that is what happens when we try to show not-so-real friendliness…the head starts spinning.

Just to balance it, here are four for you 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Are they four? Yes, after all it was a Muslim’s word 😉 . All Praise to Allah SWT!

@SL: Taliban have not terrorised anyone in Pukhtunkhwa. It is outside the borders of Pukhtunkhwa (that are lately guarded with stationed officers just like the border of India and Pakistan) that people feel terrorised of, basically, everything.

@ Hend: have you noticed that Dilip Kumar, Madhubala & Shahrukh Khan’s father were Muslims born in that Pakistani province where the Taliban have terrorized everyone? And famous actors Prithviraj Kapoor and his son Raj Kapoor were “Hindu Pathans” from Peshawer?
