Dear Malala,
I have read transcripts of your speeches on girls education and women’s rights every time you have taken the podium. But I have not been able to find anything on the gruesome rapes of women that took place in Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib prison. I have not read anything about the brutality exerted by American soldiers on Iraqi women. I cannot recall your stance on the victimization of 500,000 dead Iraqi children, out of which an estimated 250,000 were girls, murdered brutally by the American government. I don’t remember you raising your voice for the thousands of girls killed by President Obama’s drones. And you certainly didn’t speak about the girl who was severely burnt after surviving a drone attack.
I am not here to judge you, but I do want to ask, is your cause, if it can be called a cause, your own? Are you really interested in girl’s education? From what I can see, you don’t even seem interested in their lives. When the perpetrators are alleged to be the Taliban, you go berserk, even if the victims can be counted on fingers, but when the murderers happen to be the government which supports you and provides you with a platform to speak, even though they kill millions and commit mass rape of Muslim girls and women, it does not seem to bother you. Or maybe it does, but you certainly do not speak about the gruesome injustice.
I am sure you know that the American government has killed and raped Muslims in Somalia, Sudan, Panama, Yemen, Libya, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Palestine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and a number of other countries. I am sure you know about their crimes against humanity. Against men. Against women. Against children.
Where is your voice?
