Junaid Jamshed criticized by leading Ulema for endorsement of Lays Chips

According to a report in the Urdu daily “Ummat” of 29 June 2009, leading scholars have criticized Junaid Jamshed for declaring Lays chips as “halal”.

Mufti Naeem of Jamaa-e-Binnoria (SITE, Karachi), Mufti Muneebur Rahman (Chairman, Ruet-Hilal Committee), Mufti Abu Bakr (Jaamia Clifton, Karachi) and Mufti Abdul Momin Bangash have declared that having a beard does not make a man an Islamic scholar and Junaid Jamshed (who has not been trained in a madressah) has no knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence.

According to a letter in “The News”, Junaid Jamshed advised students not to study science and technology but to devote all their time to study Islam.

    @all
    first of all, i dont feel there is no harm of JJ coming out and clarifying that Lays is Hilal. Why?
    because religion was dragged into the dirty world of business when some elements, called it Haram. This in the past has been seen in case of Telenor(Carttons Isuue) and many more.
    2ndly, why a person with beard cannot be a part of normal life………if the same thing must hav come from very respectable zakir naek,,,,a standing ovation must hav been given………but if its JJ,, we hav that old Mullah debate…….

    I don’t get it. Are the “leading scholars” disagreeing with JJ and saying that Lays chips are in fact haraam?

    If Jamia Ashrafia has issued Lays a halal certificate why the debate is still ongoing? what is the reason to only believe Ummat and not the manufacturer? is it as easy to misguide a whole nation by playing with their beliefs?
    Halal or Haram, I havent seen any one in favor of Lays.

    Ask a Tableeghi how many stars are there in the universe, or how many planets circle our sun, he will look blankly at you.

    A person can concentrate more on religion while pursuing academic education. Even in madressas today, they have started teaching English, Maths and Science along with Islamic education. Scholars today give lectures and answer questions on websites in English. Even Tablighee Alims who do not know English stress upon academic education.

    Mr. Yusha, this is from Newspost (The News, 28 June 2009):

    Why oppose technology?

    Sometime ago Junaid Jamshed came over to my university. One of the points he raised was that Pakistan had enough of technology and did not require any more of it and that we (students) should concentrate more on religion. Someone who has such a large fan following in our country should think before saying something of this sort in a university. I think what he should have said was that students should pay more attention towards their education — so our country can also compete with the rest of the world — and perform their religious duties hand in hand.

    What a bunch of worthless lunatics. I wish these loons just stay in the mosques and dont bother with the outside world. We dont need any fatwas as we know whats Hilal and whats Haram.

    Even if Lays is halal, who told Junaid Jamshed that he could advertise it on TV. Why is there no criticism for this from mullahs?

    If Junaid Jamshed really said that people should not devote time to acedemic education then there is something seriously wrong with him. Doesn’t he know that the biggest Tablighees are PhDs.
