Why do people indulge in vice? Are they trying to fill a gap or a void in their soul? Do they feel that there is a hole right through their soul? Why do they feel that way? What is it that always seems missing?
People buy every possible thing that money can buy but this feeling does not go away. Love, in the form of marriage does not fill the gap. Sex does not fill the void. Respect from others does not do it. So what is missing?
Allah (swt) has created certain needs for certain things. Unless a person eats food he will keep feeling hungry no matter what he/she does. Similarly, the souls requires the daily prayers, the recitation of the Quran and the zikr of Allah (swt). Without these needs for the soul, the soul will keep suffering and nothing in this world will fill the hole in the soul.
