Growing Old

Old age consists of ages nearing the average life span of human beings, and thus the end of the human life cycle. It cannot be defined exactly because it does not have the same meaning in all societies. In many parts of the world, people are considered old because of certain changes in their activities or social roles. For example, people may be considered old when they become grandparents or when they begin to do less or different work.
Worldwide, the number of people 65 or older is increasing faster than ever before. Most of this increase is occurring in developing countries. A government official who did not want to give his name reported that “The increase of senior citizens around the world (especially in more economically developed countries) could soon be considered as a problem. The fact is, with the number of elderly people increasing, there will be a greater need for people to care for them”.
But being Muslims, does it suit to leave the old people? Dont we have to enter this stage sometime? …..
Here I quote an ode on the old age:

There’s quite an art to falling apart as the years go by,
And life doesn’t begin at 40. That’s a big fat lie.
My hair’s getting thinner, my body is not;
The few teeth I have are beginning to rot.

I smell of Vick’s-Vapo-Rub, not Chanel # 5;
My new pacemaker’s all that keeps me alive.
When asked of my past, every detail I’ll know,
But what was I doing 10 minutes ago?

Well, you get the idea, what more can I say?
I’m off to read the obituary, like I do every day;
If my names not there, I’ll once again start –
Perfecting the art of falling apart
