Federated Decisions by PPP’s CEC

On the eve of the third day of mourning regarding the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, some really encouraging signs were observed in the press conference held by the leadership of Pakistan People’s Party.

The most resounding message was of “Federation”. Asif Ali Zardari did loads of good to his former image by promoting the notion of Pakistani federation, and he was applauded by the billions of Pakistanis, when he said that federation was the key to the survival of Pakistan and it was commendable when he chanted slogans of “Long Live Pakistan”.

After a long and nerve-shattering wait, the executive committee of PPP broke and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Asif Ali Zardari and Makhdoom Amin Fahim, along with other seniors of party held a press conference, in which it was announced that PPP is going to contest the elections, and they thanked Nawaz Sharif for his support and appealed to him to revoke his decision of boycott, which was duly accepted by PML-N.

Bilawal, the only son of Benazir, changed his name from Bilawal Zardari to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and in his immaculate English accent, he read from a scripted statement about the party line, and he stressed that he will carry the torch of struggle regarding democracy in Pakistan and he will not let the sacrifices of his mother and his maternal grandfather go to waste. He also said that democracy was the best revenge.

Bilawal Zardari was appointed as the chairman of PPP, while Asif Zardari would be the joint chairman, and Makhdoom Amin Fahim will be the candidate for the premiership from the party. Zardari also condemned the arson, killings, lootings in various parts of the country, and he urged PPP workers to remain calm and use their grief on Election Day. He also refused to accept the government version regarding the death of Benazir, and he said that it was absurd to believe whatever the regime says. He once again reiterated that an international inquiry should be formulated to investigate the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
