Though the heap of dung, which we call our history is full of referendums and elections, the elections of 2008 are a little different animal in the sense that no one is taking them seriously including the lotas.
It was a thorough lesson for the emerging youth of the country, which is rapidly converging on the Internet, to witness the spinelessness of the Quisling League to present its manifesto. Now this document is truly amazing and breath taking, as it lists all the things which starts from the letter ‘D’ (‘development, devolution, democracy, diversity and defense’) and which our beloved PML-Q is going to pursue if you please elect them for the next five years. What a farce.
Who cares about us and our bummer votes? I was watching the renewed and controlled ARYONEWORLD’s softball news. Even in their soft tones, they were unable to hide the miseries of common people searching frantically for flour. Newscaster told me that still the flour was scarce and 1kg bag was of Rs. 24. Kerosene oil was missing from the shops, and people were really hapless. Just after that news, a break came, and I feasted my eyes with a glossy advertisement of the famous guttural model Pervez Elahi with blaring music and then it was put to me that if I wanted to carry on with the fantastic progress PML-Q under the leadership of Chuadharies had bestowed upon the country, then I have got to cast my vote for ‘Cycle’. (Note to Editor: Can I utter a really nasty expletive here, please?)
In the ads on all the private TV channels and in the national dailies, they are demanding the votes of the nation, as if it is their birth right. I mean, are we so dimwit to vote for PML-Quisling?
But, majority of Pakistanis who live in the villages, and don’t really know what the heck democracy, constitution, free media, and free judiciary is. They don’t give a damn to the objective of the elections. All they care for is fun and festivals, and they know that it’s a grand game of hard cash, Biradari and manipulation.
