Into the Long March : Locked Down

An overwhelming majority of Pakistani people have left their homes and work and are heading towards Islamabad even in the face of adversity and Draconian measures taken by the government of Pakistan People’s Party. While Asif Ali Zardari refuses any way out and is stubborn to stop the public protest, the other side is also adamant to reach to their goals, no matter what.

The long march is scheduled to culminate in a sit-in on the Constitutional Avenue in Islamabad, and is to continue until the judges deposed on Nov 3 are restituted to their constitutional offices. The symbolic figure of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Nawaz Sharif are there to fuel the passions of the marchers.

The intervention of Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani during separate meetings with the president and prime minister failed miserably as Zardari refused to accept any suggestion involving removal of Salman Taseer, reinstatement of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary and the solution to the ineligibility of Sharif brothers.

Information Minister Sherry Rehman called it a day after she failed to convince President Asif Ali Zardari to lift the ban on Geo News transmission and upon the Aaj news transmission. Before that Raza Rabbani and other stalwarts of PPP have resigned from the government.

Clash is on and its heading towards make or break.
