Why Afridi Bites the Ball?

Shahid Afridi bites the ballWhat on earth will be more embarrassing for the cricket loving nation than this? Shahid Afridi has been caught by TV camera suspect as tampering the ball by biting it with his teeth in the dramatic fifth and final ODI at the WACA Ground in Perth. Television cameras caught the captain taking two vigorous bites along the seam of the ball at the end of the 40th over. The ball was immediately examined by the umpires and replaced. One of the more bizarre incidents to have been witnessed in international cricket which no one wants to watch again.

As a consequence of this Shahid Afridi has been banned for two T20 matches. Afridi apologized for his actions last night claiming they were borne out of frustration. The desperation to win the match by hook or crook was evident from his behavior showing that the moral of the team is at lowest level now. Though the shameful act did not justify it. Just for a second thought it might be intentional as to keep his record of being the most successful T20 skipper for Pakistan team unharmed.

Whatever the reason may be, desperation to win or for the sake of records, his act is a sheer disappointment for his fans as well as the nation. Wake up PCB!

@Hend: The whole world knows that Australian cricketers are a bunch of cheaters. There are cheaters in the Indian side too. Tendulkar was banned for one match during India’s tour of South Africa in 2001. Cameras showed him using his nails to clean the seam. Dravid was caught rubbing a half-eaten toffee on one side of the ball in an ODI against Zimbabwe. Indian cricketers feel the need to indulge in ball-tampering against a side like Zimbabwe!

After being caught red-handed, Afridi had no choice but to accept his misdemeanour.

However, he shouldn’t have gone to the extent of saying, “ALL teams tamper with the ball”. I haven’t heard fo cases where players from New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or Zimbabwe have been reported for any such offence. Afridi should have been MAN ENOUGH to accept it and then shut-up.

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, what concerns me that he was not only dumb enough to do it not once but at least twice in full view of the 26 cameras on the ground, he also had the brains to chew on a ball which had been rolled on the ground, collected a LOT OF DIRT and god only knows what else….HAD BEEN SPAT at by a number of the bowlers and fielders…had also been LADEN WITH THE SWEAT of a number of players…and SAVING THE BEST FOR THE LAST….HAD BEEN RUBBED ON THE SWEATY GROIN AREA OF THE PALYERS….AND AFRIDI THEN TOOK THAT BALL IN HIS MOUTH!!!!!!!!

I have heard a lot of Pakis describe him as one of Pak’s most Flamboyant player.

Flamboyant???…I don’t know…but one of the most stupidest and UNHYGIENIC (for lack of a better word)…YES SIR, HE’S MILES AHEAD OF EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD…

The whole issue is about cheating which has been made into an art by Pakistani cricketers.

There have been numerous examples of foreign players getting into confrontation with Pakistani umpires and countless times when their players were caught red handed tampering with the ball. On other occasions their cricketers were caught using steroids and banned substances. What action was taken by their board? Nothing. It is a simple issue, of organized cheating.

Now what you are seeing in these blogs is examples of some people making excuses and accusing white players of chating…whats up with that huh?

Anyway, let us keep reading what they come up with and enjoy. They seriously seem to think everyone believes it…hahaha!

Hend: Wasim and Waqar were praised by Indian commentators endlessly. India has never been able to produce fast bowlers of such calibre.

@Shakir, Hend and Abdus Samad: Why don’t we ban all Australian cricketers for sledging endlessly?

@James: Spitting on one side of a ball enables a bowler to swing the ball.

Hina: The garbage article was not originally published on a Pakistani website. When it is, it becomes garbage. Also, I am not the least bit interested in writing about the dirty tactics used by Australian, English and South African cricketers. My point is that whenever a cricketer from the subcontinent does something wrong, it makes headlines, whereas a white cricketer gets away with a punishment of a much lesser degree for committing the same wrong act. Why the double standards? And as you told me a some time ago, try to build the image of Pakistan instead of demolishing it. Practice what you preach.

    >>>If a Pakistani cricketer bites the ball like Aridi did is surely not a thing to be proud of or project as a positive attitude.

Yes, and for that reason you don’t have to write about it. Unless you write about every white cricketer who does something against the rules of the game.

    >>>Whenever the camera caught a foreign player doing this and he will not be punished than we have a chance to say something about match referees or ICC.

You know nothing about cricket. They have been caught ball tampering, sledging and handing information to bookies. Umpires outside of Australia have been banned and fined for biased umpiring. Darell Hair was banned for no-balling Muralitharan without reason. Umpires in Australia happen to be the worst with their LBW decisions. It was because of such umpiring that the ICC came up with a policy that when two one-day sides play, umpires cannot be from the same countries. Whether it’s rules, umpires, cricketers, match referees or the ICC, everything is biased.

Is there such a thing in cricket as a “spitball,” as in baseball, where the pitcher spits on the ball (for some purpose I don’t grasp)?

Yeah I agree with Shakir. He’s been let of lightly. Should have been banned for a year like Asif was. Afridi has a history of dubious practices. Wasn’t he the one who dug up the faisalabad pitch?

If Afridi was to be banned as Shakir suggests then the whole Pakistani team would get banned eventually.

What is new in this? This ‘art’ has been practiced by Pakistani bowlers for ages. All these bowlers like Waqar, Akdam, Surfraaz and Imran basically made careers out of this practice. Eventually all cricket fans around the world have realised this. Blaady cheats.

Remember the ‘Darrel Hair’ 2006 Oval test match in England? Poor umpire was made a scapegoat when he caught Inzamam and his ‘inmates’ doing the same.

So the fact is, Afridi did what all Pakistani bowlers have been doing for years, so he should not be punished. In fact I expect his explanation that he was doing it for the country to make him more loved and respected in a country like Pakistan. Maybe he should have also said that he was doing it for jihad for Islam…that would sell very well in a place where the president himself is a thief.

This episode just shows that when these uncouth people get desperate, they forget what sports is about and no level is too low for them.

I think he’s been let off too lightly. He should be permanently banned from playing cricket. The fool should have known that there were TV cameras recording his every move.

Is it your hobby to offend? What you are recommending me to write can be done by you if u wants it badly. Have I told u ever what to write? As far as Garbage articles are concerned, see where they are being published……..

If a Pakistani cricketer bites the ball like Aridi did is surely not a thing to be proud of or project as a positive attitude. It is an act of disappointment for sure. Whenever the camera caught a foreign player doing this and he will not be punished than we have a chance to say something about match referees or ICC.

Instead of copy/pasting garbage articles try and write about the double standards of match referees and the ICC. Why is little done about Australians, South Africans and the English players ball tampering (and sledging)? Whenever a player from the subcontinent does something against the rules of cricket, he is met with a bigger penalty and a fine than a white cricketer, and the media also makes a bigger fuss about it. Looks like penalties and fines are only for players in the subcontinent. White players can get away with a warning. And as you told me a long time ago, try to build the image of Pakistan instead of demolishing it.
