The Plight Of Rape Victims

Is a victim’s plight caused by the rapist, or by society? I can’t understand why people in the subcontinent, Muslims and Hindus, point fingers at rape victims, as though being raped is some kind of a crime. No woman goes to a rapist and says, rape me. So why the negative and appaling attitude of society towards rape victims?

A lot of families, especially in rural areas, refuse to have any contact with a rape victim, because she supposedly brings shame on the family. Some lunatics even kill rape victims, because she ended up fornicating. How did she end up fornicating, and how does she bring shame on the family?

Movies have used rape as a promotional tool rather than show the reality behind it. Bollywood was famous for it. The censor board would not allow sex, so Bollywood would include rape in their movies instead, and the scene would be made to look erotic instead of heartwrenching.

It is unbelievable that their are some mullahs, who, instead of blaming rapists, blame the victim instead, saying she invited it somehow. Others without any common sense start parroting it.

There have been countless cases where women have gathered the courage to file a complaint at the local police station, only to be raped by the police.

The punishment for rape is 7 years if I am correct. Is this because the rapist can be freed to rape some more?

If there is anyone that brings shame due to a woman’s rape, then that is society.

You mentioned about women raping men, and the case in Karachi where a guy’s organ was bruised and bloody after his “rape.” The first thing is, why would a guy resist in this day and age, and secondly, what is it with a rape including bruises and blood? I have also read about a Canadian businessman being “raped” by 4 blondes. Now why would a man resist 4 blondes? After I wrote this post, I actually went through some stats, and I stumbled upon a website which said that a thousand something men get raped in a particular place yearly. Weird. There was another where “raped” men were to share their trauma. (Trauma?). Maybe it is something like this. Oh, she rubbed her..ahem..in my face. I am so traumatized. ROFL.

You have raised an excellent point. No one knows when our selfish society will become stronger to the level of thinking rationally and standing by the victims rather than punishing them.

What happens is, when all women are forced to dress conservatively in a particular manner, anyone who does something different stands out and becomes a victim. The conservative crowd then takes advantage of it and makes the society think that she dressed like this just to invite the rape or to seduce men. This reinforces the prejudiced views of the society and also scares women and society, forcing them to stay within the conservative edicts. It also sends a message to the rogue elements within the society that they can get away if the women do something different.

    >I remember a Hadith according to which a Jewish couple was caught in the act.

How was a Jewish couple caught in the act? Did 4 people see the male organ penetrating the female? And if 4 people did, aren’t they a bunch of perverts?

    >of course the video was not real, I said it was a movie.

What are you doing watching rape movies? And if it was a movie, didn’t the guy whom you showed it to not know, because he changed his opinion when he saw the woman resisting.

    >Jesus Christ (the King of Jews) himself said…

I didn’t know he was the king of Jews.

Weak societies and weak people blame the victims to give vent to their frustration, anger and helplessness at not being strong enough to punish the real offenders.

Strong societies and strong people punish the offenders severely and help the victims.

As for Police, they are just doing their job by exploiting the weak – their role has not changed in a thousand years – i.e. to take orders from the powerful and rule over common people.

@ Yusha: of course the video was not real, I said it was a movie. No one likes to have someone with a movie camera around when he/she is indulging in sex!

@ Yusha: Jesus Christ (the King of Jews) himself said (to the crowd who had come to stone an adulteress to death): “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone”.

@ Yusha: “The problem is that stoning to death is only applicable in a purely Islamic country…”. First, four witnesses are not required if the couple confesses. Second, even the Jewish scriptures prescribe stoning for illegal sex. I remember a Hadith according to which a Jewish couple was caught in the act. They were brought before the Prophet (pbuh), who asked the Jewish elders to bring their holy book to him. The Jews tried to conceal the fact that stoning to death is prescribed for adultery, but didn’t succeed. The Jewish couple was sentenced to die by stoning, and the narrator said that he saw the Jewish man trying to protect the woman from being stoned until he fell.

Thanks for sharing, although I am surprised that anyone would think that a woman enjoys being raped. Are you sure the video you watched was real and not dramatized. The problem is that stoning to death is only applicable in a purely Islamic country, only for adultery (not for fornication), and that too when 4 people have witnessed it, which is next to impossible. People these days just want an excuse to kill women.

This is a complex subject. I once had a business partner (15 years older than me) who thought (like most Pakistani Muslims do) that Western women love being raped, especially by Arican-Americans (who supposedly have larger organs than white men). Once I saw a video in which a white woman was shown being raped by a black man. I showed the movie to him and he was surprised at the way the woman resisted the rapist. In our society, the poor victim can’t prove that she’s been raped, since there are no witnesses to the crime. So she ends up being charged with indulging in illicit sexual intercourse, the punishment for which is stoning to death. That’s why most rape victims prefer to remain silent and don’t go to the cops to file charges against rapists.
