PTCL Broadband: It commits but never delivers

PTCL Broadband

Frustrated by my existing DSL provider, I decided to switch to PTCL Broadband, DSL service launched by PTCL, as their rates were far better than any competition. On 23rd June I used their online order form to place an order and was really surprised to receive a call very next day. In next few days I received several calls from various departments of PTCL support, updating me of the progress.

It took 14 days for old connection to be terminated from exchange due to a glitch at previous providers’ end. On July 7th I received a call from PTCL support that my connection is activated. I have been given a number to contact Mr. Sohail (in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Exchange) who will deploy an installation team at my place. However every attempt to contact the guy was futile. In the next 4 days he never picked up his land line or cell phone neither responded to messages left at his workplace.

Disappointed, I contacted PTCL Toll Free support where a sweet voice took my complaint and on my query of whether PTCL is privatized or still a government department, I earned a sermon on few black sheep badmouthing everyone etc. My complaint was registered and I was told that it will be acted upon swiftly. However, 3 days passed and nothing happened.

During this time I used feedback form on PTCL web site to submit my complaint but nothing happened on that as well.

I was told by an insider that PTCL is concentrating on promotion only and they have no strategy in place for deployment and troubleshooting.

This experience highlighted the fact yet again that PTCL is really pathetic when it comes to customer support. While they are spending millions on promotion and Corporate Branding, they are not giving a damn for customer satisfaction. To conclude, PTCL Broadband commits but never delivers.

    Hello Sahel. PTCL kept itself up to your expectations. I cancelled the order yesterday and today when i inquired them about my connection status, they said it wasn’t cancelled and that no one has asked them to cancel my order. These guys make me laugh.

    My friend got his DSL installed after 16 days. He had ordered for 512 Kbps DSL, but PTCL installed 256 Kbps DSL and said that because of a problem they couldn’t provide 512 Kbps at that time. They told him that within 3-days, his connection will be updated to 512 Kbps, but its been 3 weeks. Every time he calls ptcl customer support, they say his problem will be solved within 3 days. Now he is tired with his attempts and stopped calling them. At start he got a download speed of 28 Kbps, but now its only 18 Kbps.

    The real issue for me is that companies like ptcl have no concept of practical customer support. Yeah, sure they can give you limitless false hopes when you call them, but no practical support. And now even their call centre numbers are so busy that sometimes you have to wait for half an hour before your call is connected to them.

    Eventually ptcl dsl is going the same way of failure as paknet did.

    @Zam
    Cancel the order, make sure they DO cancel the order. As i had canceled my order with a confirmation given to me on phone and the next time i called them , they said your order is as was, not cancelled yet. !!!

    Well now the situation with my connection is really messed up.

    They have assigned me a user/pass. the modem is with me but they still cant get my dsl to work.
    I am in contact with one of most the senior people at ptcl clifton. He is blowing is head off trying to figure out the problem and has sent people to rectify the problem at the exchange as well as is constantly communicating with islamabad regarding my issue…

    I guess PTCL has done a good job bringing low priced DSL but still lacks the real professional staff that should be there to solve issues like mines and at the sametime customer suport that would keep cusotmers happy instead of pissed off!

    Well I m sorry to hear all of your problems and complains but me and 4 other friends of mine applied for PTCL broadband and all of us gotta a very good response. One of them actually get a call from them very next day of his application and within 3 days he got his connection up and running. I was the one who got the connection in 12 days besides everyone else got it within a week.

    As for the speed and stability of the connection, it’s pretty good for now.

    All the big govt. organizations PTCL, NADRA and WAPDA suck.
    I ordered a 1M connection on 23rd June, but so far no one came to install the connection at my home.
    I have called about 50 times to PTCL customer support and everytime they tell me that my connection will be installed within 3-4 days. I think if i stick to PTCL then instead of me, my grandchildren will be using this connection.

    Screw you PTCL. If before the connection installation PTCL is treating their customers so pathetcially, perhaps I can’t even imagine how worse their customer suypport will be once it is installed.
    I’m going to cancel this order today and I’ll be very happy to do.
    I’ll never look back at PTCL.

    @Kashif: Its PTCL !!!! aaarrrgghhh

    I called them yesterday to find out the situation of my account. The main reason for calling them back was due to 2 connections, one my uncles which was installed in 1.5 days.. and the other a friends whos connection was installed in a few hours of placing the order on phone !!!!

    I was amazed and thus called PTCL helpline.. a pretty girl voice presented me with a warm hello. I asked them about my connection status.. they replyed that my connection was NOT closed yet!!! WTF.. no one had been to my place yet for deployment and now they havent closed my connection. However i asked when the connection was done and they replied on 12th (i orderd on 9th). To my amazment i further inquired about what must be done now.. she asked me to hold .. and then said we will contact your exchange and have the deployment done… AND that i should ALSO contact my exchange to have the deployment done .. what GREAT customer service !!!

    I went to the exchange with the help of some source and got to the DSL admin of that exchange and told him the situation. He checked my number and said that the deployment had been COMPLETED !! ohh god. i couldnt belive what he said.. he showed me the register and there was an OK mark with my details.. after some chit chat he told me that he has received a few more complaints about this deplyoment guy. he has promised to have the deployment done today and i am now waiting for the person to come before 6pm.

    I will post what happened again..

    @Sahel: Please update when they cancel the account 🙂

    I have heard the connection is free for 3 months so lets see how it goes. The modem supplied by PTCL does not have a USB port available so I had to unplug my local net cable. I am planning to get another LAN card soon.

    The same situation is with me !!

    After using CyberXtreme for the past year, i decided to purchase a 1M connection from PTCL to check the speed and service. This was luckily to be installed on my other telephone line. Due to wich i did not have to terminate my connection with Cybernet.

    Applied at PTCL on the 9th of July and after 10 or more complaints todays the 29th of July .. i happily called PTCL to cancel my order.

    PTCL has never been interested in customer care… this was my first and last time to deal with PTCL’s broadband service.

    they even called me on the 22nd (sunday) that they are comming for deployment, they even confirmed the way to my address. But no one has ever appreared to install DSL at my place.

    As a dial-up user of Paknet (a subsidary of PTCL) I can fully understand your frustration.

    They are worst, and one of the main reason why there is no true IT revolution in the country.
