My name is Khan – Oh, is it?

Shah Rukh Khan detained on US airport

Not being recognized is a problem Shah Rukh Khan does not encounter very often. On Saturday, however, the 43-year-old Bollywood star, who was on his way to an Independence Day function in Chicago, was detained for close to two hours by immigration authorities at Newark Airport in New Jersey, USA.

Khan said he found the incident “a little embarrassing.”

Khan was waiting for his bags when security officials asked him to accompany them. “I thought it was nice of them to take me to another room,” he said. “But apparently that was a second check. I had my papers in order…I was taken aback.”

Khan said he chose not to say too much to the officials “because I am little worried about Americans as they do have this issue when your name is Islamic.”

“I will take the first flight back to India once my work here is finished,” he added.

The actor was interrogated, his bags checked and he was asked to give names and phone numbers of people he knew in the US. He was not allowed any calls till the interrogation ended. Khan then called the Indian consulate, who secured his release.

Shah Rukh Khan has just finished shooting in the US for his next film, which is about a Muslim man who is subjected to racial profiling in the US. The film is called My name is Khan. The star’s detention has upset his fans, Bollywood and the Indian government. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni suggested an equal and opposite reaction towards Americans visiting India. “I am of the opinion that the way we are frisked, for example I too was frisked, we should do the same to them,” PTI quoted Soni as saying.

India has formally taken up the matter with the US, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vishnu Prakash said in Delhi. US Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer issued a statement saying, “We are trying to ascertain the facts of the case, to understand what took place. Shah Rukh Khan, the actor and global icon, is a very welcome guest in the US. Many Americans love his films.”

I can make judgements based on the ‘trash’ that you mention.

Armed Forces are cleaning up the tribal areas. I myself belong to the tribal areas (Kurram).

I dont doubt that civilians have been killed. But they are 100% behind Armed Forces and have been cooperating with Fauj in efforts to crush the terrorists.

Ulema, Qaum, Fauj all united against the miscreants who are giving bad name to this great nation.

don’t sympathize or fall victim to terrorist propaganda. Thanks.

@Momina: Your comprehension skills are weak. I never said you are here to promote your gender. Read my comment again.

    >according to you a woman should be one who bears your abuse…is timid, weak and stupid.

    Re-type that in English.

The army is doing a magnificent job in killing civilians and inviting foreigners.

Lt.: if you don’t know me then refrain from making comments on me.

Yusha: according to you a woman should be one who bears your abuse…is timid, weak and stupid.

This is also the rubbish that (biased) culture inspired people believe. That is not what Islam teaches.

Feminine side of me? Here, I am not promoting my gender. You should look at my comments as the comments of a person and not of a girl/woman.

Shakir you better not make assumptions about me. I am serious. Are you sitting in my head to know what I feel about variety of matters? Matters that I haven’t even spoken about.

I am surprised how the Chowrangi people can allow such nonsense all the time. Freedom of speech-fine-but freedom of trash?

It is people like you, Shakir, that create a mess between people belonging to different sects and races.

Momina you are confused and don’t even know what you’re talking about.

That post made no sense at all. The Kohat incident? That had nothing to do with the Armed Forces.

I suspect that you are a taleban sympathiser

@Momina: You continue to prove my point to everyone. I must say thanks.

@ Momina: anyone who supports the Taleban/Al-Qaeda people is an enemy of Muslims and of Pakistan. You are living in denial. It seems that you support the burning of girls’ schools, suicide bombings, burning of cd shops, execution of Pakistan Army personnel, killing of Shias and other Muslims, etc. And since you are not living in NWFP, you don’t know how much the people have suffered. Your own elected government wasn’t able to control the killers, so the army had to be called in and is doing a magnificent job.

    >You are just proving the background you come from with your sinful and disrespectful way of talking

@Momina: You’re the only woman I have seen who loves to fight and does it like a man. Try to be feminine for a change, and look at your own comments before accusing others.

SL & Lt.: Whom are you both fooling? It is a fact that the military have been killing innocent civilians in the name of Taliban. As for Taliban, Allah Almighty Willed and all this situation is in existence BUT isn’t the ISI behind all this mess?? For their own purposes they create an army and when they either feel they didn’t want the army to be this way or if they feel the army is redundant they turn around to eliminate them along with innocent civilians.

The recent Kohat incident is well-known to be an army plot. But the name of Shia-Sunni differences was given to it. Trust me, no one is interested in creating chaos just for fun except the military.

All such activities have been conducted by military just to create problems within the country and remain in control of the country. Pathetic!

    SL

You are just proving the background you come from with your sinful and disrespectful way of talking…continue to do so…expecting any good from Islamophobes like you is a joke.

By the way, my brothers and sisters in Swat are peace-loving just like the rest of the people of Pukhtunkhwa…but what has that got to do with the current topic? Your frequency really needs a check-up.

If you think your comments will stop people from speaking the truth about the wrong acts committed by the military then you are absolutely wrong.

    Lt. Gen.:

If it hurts you to read my comments then don’t. I have every right to voice my opinion and speak the truth.

General: you’re right, she’s mentally abnormal (as I’ve always suspected). I’ve visited Swat four times (the last time in 1996) and believe me I’ve never met a more peace-loving people than the Swatis.
