Genghis Khan and the Khwarazm Shah

No one in Muslim word could withstand the onslaught of Genghis Khan as did Jalal-ud-Din Muhammad, the Khwarazm Shah. The gulf between different powers and internal strife were the main causes of Muslim’s defeat at the hands of Genghis Khan.

Khwarazm Shah moved to India in order to seek support with Genghis Khan closely chasing. Khwarazm Shah put his horse in the River Indus at Hund above Attock. Genghis Khan’s marksmen took positions on the river bank ready to hurl their arrows. “Stop, no one will let the arrows fly,” ordered Khan to his soldiers who were surprised because Genghis Khan was not known for forgiving.

Genghis Khan called his sons and pointing at Khwarazm Shah said, “Look at the brave man.”

All those who are familiar with the tussle between Khwarazm Shah and Genghis Khan still are at loss about who out of the two was braver, Khwarazm Shah whom a man like Genghis Khan who used to say, “I am the punishment of God. If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent punishment like me upon you” was calling brave or Genghis Khan who could control his anger and accept the bravery of arch enemy giving his example to his sons as a role model?

    Infact he was man of honor.one of the most historic heros.if we have a look at that situation the fact will reveal that he took on super power of his time with no war asids.due to this great hero resistance invasion of mangols were so uneffective in that specific period of time.otherwise mongols were destroying islamic word with no effective resistance

    it is fact the kawarzum shah not wining the war, but it is on the record of history changaz khan was never compare any other with shah, on the last movement shah was saying , shah is able to defeat the hundred changaiz khan in the world, but it not possible shah fight with his luck, KAWARZAM SHAH 100 CHANGIZ KHAN KO SHAKAST DE SAKTA HE MAGER APNI TQDEER SE NEY LAR SAKTA YE SHAKAST SHAH KA MAQADER HA.

    jalaluddin was great, intellectual, intelligent, brave moral and ethical. there is no comparison b/w JALALUDDIN & Changez khan. Look at the huge army of Genghis. There is no comparison.How can u compare gengis khan with great man ike jalaluddin. changez khan massicred mllons of people, abused women etc etc.i have so many logical points to state hence to prove Jalaluddin was something different. pity he didnt get support from muslim rulers, by his own brothers, father. “Hazaro saal nargis apni baynoori pay roti hay-barhi mushkil say hota hay chaman may deedawar paida”

    Khwarzam Shah was defeated by the Mongols, after which he fled to India. The Mongol army followed him and caught up with him near Indus. Here the battle of Indus was fought, where he was defeated by the Mongols again and most of this forces were massacred. He asked Sultan Iltumish of Delhi for refuge, but Iltumish fearing a Mongol invasion of India, denied him asylum. He later on defeated the Qabacha of Multan, plundered Sindh and northern Gujarat and then went away to Persia. He was never able to consolidate his power over Persia and was locked in a battle with the Seljuks. In Persia, he was once again defeated by the Mongols in 1225 and this time he fled to Azerbaijan and established his kingdom there. In 1226 he attacked Georgia and sacked Tbilisi, destroying all the churches and massacring the city’s Christian population. He was once again locked in a power struggle with the Seljuks, and was defeated by Sultan Kayqubad I in the battle of Battle of Yassi Chemen in 1230. He was later assassinated by Kurds, who may have been hired by the Seljuks.

    He may have shown great courage at the Battle of Indus, but history only remembers the victorious.

    The site of battle between Ghengiz Khan and Jalal ud Din Khawarzam Shah is not Hund near Attock as mentioned above. The place of battle was a small place named Din Kot near present day Kala bagh. I have seen this site marked on old military maps which gave location of battles of the old times. For reference I would recommend that Tarikh e Jahan Kusha translated by Prof A J Boyal be seen. The Khan’s remarks are also different and very inspiring.
