Western Democracy in Pakistan

Does Pakistanis really do not understand and deserve democracy? What is the object of democracy? That should be in plain words — truth. It is a notion and idea which seems to be vanished from the Pakistani society. From top to bottom we are wily liars.

What we think democracy is? Is it the ultimate elixir? It surely doesn’t mean that just as we will introduce it, it will cure all the ills and evils. It needs time and it needs concerted effort. It’s not something elusive, its a mindset and its an approach. Its not destination, but its just a very effective tool to reach there.

Democracy has its few due limitations as guiding signpost, however, for although it can show us the right direction, it does not give detailed information about the conditions along the way. But its negative value as a warning sign is more definite. Democracy can show us what to avoid, even if it does not teach us what to do—by showing the most common mistakes that nations are apt to make and to repeat.

“Fools,” said Bismarck, “say they learn by experience. I prefer to profit by other people’s experience.”

So instead of experiencing through various kinds of democracies, we should learn from West. We have a working democratic model in front of us. We should just throw our despotic and aristocratic model into the Arabian Ocean, and this time import the Western democracy without duty and leader.
