United PML

General Musharraf has once again played a master stroke. Now Shaukat Aziz and Chaudhry Pervez Elahi are confronting each other behind the scenes, and competing not-so-healthily in the race for the next prime minister. Once again, due to the Benazir’s threatening and foolish statesmanship, she has not remained so much favorite of the army as the next prime minister, so once again PML-Q has got a very strong chance for getting the top seat.

MQM, Pir Pagara, Farooq Leghari, PPP Patriots, and other allies of PML-Q are not so much comfortable with the Chaudharies of Gujarat, and even within the Lotas of PML-Q, most are fed up with the Chaudharies. But still Chaudharies have got a considerable clout in the Punjab, though it’s very much volatile and will vanish, once Nawaz Sharif lands in the country to stay. In Punjab, PML-Q is projecting the slogan of ‘Prime Minister Pervez Elahi’, whereas first time in the meeting of MQM in Karachi, slogan of Shaukat Aziz as Prime Minister was heard.

Shaukat Aziz is also implying the union of PML factions, and that’s very much alarming for the Chaudharies. Shaukat Aziz is learning the politics of Pakistan at last. He has said that he is ready for reconciliation with Nawaz Sharif and considers PML-N, one of the biggest parties of country. Mir Zafar Jamali is also very active in bringing the PML-F, PML-Q and PML-N together minus Chaudhary Shujaat & co.

Things are very much complex now. Pervez Musharraf is also considering the option of making Shahbaz Sharif as Prime Minister, as was Musharraf’s desire in 1999. Both Pervez’ simply don’t want to bring Nawaz Sharif back. Federal Pervez considers him a threat for his presidency and the provincial Pervez considers him an obstacle in his way to Prime Minister-ship.

The union of PML factions is the need of hour, but the problem is the clash of personalities. Musharraf and Chaudharies don’t want to accept Sharif’s, whereas Sharif’s don’t want to accept uniform and general, and same situation lies within the PML-Q. It is necessary that a consensus should be reached, and PML gets united and combat PPP politically in the election field.
