Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman is livid. Chaudhry Shujaat is blanched. The ‘Lotas’ of PML-Q are desperate. The most miserable bunch of creatures right now are the members of People’s Party Patriot, who have nowhere to run, and nowhere to hide. Queues in PML-Q are forming a new sort of disarray towards the exit order in frenzy.
Lotas are wondering in sheer terror and utter confusion as where to go and how to secure their position in the next election. For five years, they have been singing in chorus with President Musharraf, the lyrics that Benazir is a dire security risk. She and her notorious husband are the most corrupt couple on planet. They both have plundered the national exchequer mercilessly. All those facts about Surrey Palace and Swiss accounts, and all that bashing of white collar crimes is very hard to take back for even ‘Lotas’, when they are going to face the people of their voting areas and the media.
On the fringes, the most entertaining thing is the plight of Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, who was made to believe by Chaudhry Shujaat that Maulana is the next prime-minister of Pakistan. Chaudhris of Gujrat have tried their hell best to stop the deal between Musharraf and Benazir. They presented the name of Maulana as prime minister and they assured president a re-election even in uniform. Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman is trying to achieve that golden top seat for three years now. First he rendered his services in 17th amendment, then he never let ARD succeed, then he managed to break it apart, and then he failed the Nawaz Sharif welcome, then ensured that NWFP assembly didnt get dissolved before the presidential election. But he has been used as a tissue paper, and thrown into the waste basket with disgust. Suits him well, indeed.
The thing is that now President is finding himself in cul-de-sac. He has got immense pressure from United States, and US wants their darling as prime minister. They do want Musharraf as president, but they now want to do it “democratically”. Benazir is the natural choice, who herself has worked hard to win the hearts of West. Musharraf also now wants to get support
from the grass root level, and he has seen that there is no respect and regards for PML-Q whatsoever, anywhere in the country.
The new ordinance which is a pivotal part of the deal has also been finalized and approved by both parties. This ordinance, which royally abuses the world “National Re-conciliation”, is just to provide the much needed so called legitimacy to Musharraf and an escape for Benazir from corruption charges. She is also sure to get a third term as prime minister. She is the major beneficiary of this ordinance, while PML-N is the least one. I am amazed as how PPPP’s other leaders are reacting. They seem to have no clue about whats going on. They are still blindly supporting Benazir with bizarre and baseless arguments. They have realized that she has made the deal, and now coming in power, and there is no use of criticizing Musharraf now. They know that if the want to get any fruit, they have to support BB with closed eyes and shouting mouths.
