Why There Is Flood In Pakistan

Pakistan is in turmoil and turbulence since almost a decade. By the time we bowed to US pressure and allowed our lands to be used to assault Muslims of Afghanistan. In denial of the sovereignty of Allah (swt), we took USA to be supreme (Nauzubillah). Since then, our lands are filled with chaos and mayhem. Earthquakes, suicide bombings, target killings, cruel rulers, and now the floods.

Have we ever give it a thought that why we are in such a mess?

Qura’an tells us about how civilizations were wiped off from the face of earth, when they went wild with lust, and injustice. However, Allah (swt) reminds us that HE has not destroyed any nation without first sending warnings and HIS clear signs, so that they can repent and turn to the straight path. Some nations, like that of Prophet Younus (AS) repented and the punishment was turned off from mid-air. But many perished because they made fun of the messengers and the signs of Allah (swt).

Allah (swt) has described the principle as:

Nor was thy Lord the one to destroy a population until He had sent to its Center a messenger, rehearsing to them Our Signs: nor are We going to destroy a population except when its members practise iniquity. (28:59)

Iniquity, immoral or grossly unfair behavior, is defined as:

- Deviation from what is right; wickedness, gross injustice.
- A wrongful act.
- Absence of moral or spiritual values, lawlessness.
- Denial of the sovereignty of God.

When Prophet Nuh (AS), told his people:

“That ye serve none but Allah: verily I do fear for you the Punishment of a Grievous Day.” (11:26)

.. they responded:

They said: “O Noah! thou hast disputed with us, and (much) hast thou prolonged the dispute with us: now bring upon us what thou threatenest us with if thou speakest the truth!” (11:32)

… and the Day arrived:

So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. (54:11) And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. (54:12)

Time and again, we were told to repent, to return to straight path, but we made fun of the messengers. In fact, most of us are still indulged in their daily routine while Pakistan is going through a crisis, worst in its history. We are busy in our Eid shoppings, checking out Iftaar deals and what-nots, with occasional glance at the TV or newspaper to get an update on the misery, flood-affected Pakistanis are going through. Some of us have managed to pull out few bucks for the donations, while very few are mobilized in the field, delivering food and supplies to the affected and assisting in relief and rescue work.

It is time to repent, to ask forgiveness, and we have to do this as a nation.

We have two Ashra of Ramadan left. Please make them useful, use the days and nights to ask for forgiveness, as only Allah (swt) can take us out of this gloom.

Allah is the Protector of those who have faith: from the depths of darkness, He will lead them forth into light. Of those who reject faith the patrons are the Evil Ones: from light they will lead them forth into the depths of darkness. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell therein (for ever). (2:257)

@ Syed Mehroz Alam: we had floods and earthquakes even before we became allies of the U.S. How do you explain that?

Very well said, Kashif. Agreed that such things started after US used our lands to attack Afghanistan. These target killings, floods, suiside attacks are all signs of Allah’s wrath and anger on this. We all need to seek forgiveness. Jazak Allah for such post.

Going by this logic, shouldn’t N.America, Europe and even the Middle East, get devastated first? Their sins are far greater then those of the poor Pakistanis, mostly cattle herders and land tillers, who are suffering from these floods.

Maybe it’s because the people elected Asif Zardari as the president. Perhaps it’s because most of the women in the flood-hit areas have 10 children (one even has 14). I don’t think it’s because Pakistanis in the flood-hit areas are sinners. They are simple, deeply religious people whose only fault is that they’re poor and uneducated. They’re so poor that they will vote for anyone who gives them a meal. They’re so illiterate that they believe Allah wants them to have at least ten children.
