Tehreek Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Hakimullah Mehsud is killed in alleged drone attack.

According to news reports, several missiles were fired at a car and at one of Hakimullah Mehsud’s compounds in North Waziristan. Five people were killed.

The strike was carried out near the town of Miranshah in North Waziristan.

Hakimullah Mehsud became the ameer of TTP in 2009. He had US $5 million bounty on his head.

The latest strike comes a day after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said dialogue with the Taliban “has started”. It seems that the peace talks have been gone to the dogs now.

Hakimullah (Hakim Ullah, Hakeemullah) Mehsud, (c. 1979 – November 1, 2013), born as Jamshed Mehsud and also known as Zulfiqar Mehsud, was the Emir of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).He was deputy to commander Baitullah Mehsud and one of the leaders of the militant group Fedayeen al-Islam prior to the elder Mehsud’s death in a CIA drone missile strike. He had been the TTP’s commander in the Khyber, Kurram and Orakzai agencies of Pakistan. He was described as being born about 1979 and a cousin of Qari Hussain. He was known to be a young and aggressive field commander, who previously served as a driver and was very close to Baitullah Mehsud. Reports initially indicated he was fatally wounded on January 14, 2010 by a U.S. drone attack although two videos released by the TTP in 2010 and 2011 proved that he survived the attack. Mehsud was reported by Pakistani intelligence to have been killed by US drone strike on 12 January 2012. However, the Pakistani Taliban denied the claim. It was confirmed that he was eliminated in a drone strike on November 1, 2013.
