Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto?

O, my readers know that I tend to become time by time a sadist. So that is one of those posts. I just wanted to torment the Mrs. Kursi, so that is why I used such a highbrow title for this post.

After PML-Q has publicly and lavishly insulted the former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz by not even giving him a ticket, they have also announced Pervez Elahi as their candidate for the Prime Minister ship. If Pervez Elahi wants to become PM of hapless Pakistan, he has to win Punjab, the most populous province of the country, and for that he has to defeat Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N. It would be far more easy for him, if the Nawaz Sharif remained exile, but now as Nawaz Sharif is sure to land in Lahore on 24th November, it has become ultra harder for Chaudhary Pervez Elahi and his ilk to win the Punjabi vote even with grandest of expected vote-fixing and rigging.

Pervez Musharraf is now playing the game only for his survival, and that is why the visit to the holy land. He has brought Nawaz Sharif to the table at last, courtesy to the massive efforts by the Saudi King, and now he wants to introduce as much legitimacy as possible to the upcoming elections. Its also very much expected that he would lift the emergency in the coming days, as it would be hard for the Nawaz Sharif and Benazir to take part in any such elections with the emergency blanket over it. It seems that now PML-Q is at it’s own, and we could see once again a mass lota rolling from PML-Q to PML-N and PPP.

Benazir knows and knows it very well that if anybody could save her and make her a third time PM, its her godfathers in Washington. So he is lobbying more there than over here. According to former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, “The West’s interests lie in a democratic Pakistan.” Now that’s an eye opener for anybody, who cares to listen, as she has declared it that democracy isn’t much important for the hapless people of this poor country, but for the West, and she wants West to believe that democracy in Pakistan means she as a Prime Minister and nothing else.

Benazir was elected twice in democratic elections in Pakistan. Both times she failed miserably, yet now she talks about “legitimate leadership” for Pakistan. She, her husband and all the other leaders of PPP looted and amassed grand fortunes in the Swiss, Spanish, Arab, English and American banks, and now they want more. It’s as simple as that. In this power game the real losers will be the people of Pakistan. And that is the tragedy.
