Governor Punjab Salman Taseer Shot Dead in Islamabad

Governor Punjab Salman Taseer killed in IslamabadIndeed a shocking and sad incident in the name of the religion. Apparently for his stand against Blasphemy law and his support to pardon the lady convict, Governor Punjab Salman Taseer has been murdered outside a restaurant in Kohsar Market, Islamabad, by one of his own guards named Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri. The guard shot him brutally with as many as nine twenty seven bullets and surrendered to the police.

Salman Taseer had publicly supported Asia Bibi, a Christian woman who was sentenced to death by a municipal court for blasphemy against Islam, and requested President Asif Ali Zardari to pardon her. He had termed anti-blasphemy law as black law. Asia Bibi’s case had been the reason for debate over Blasphemy law which is a sensitive issue and matter of life and death for many in Pakistan.

In his last cyber message on social networking site Twitter he quoted:

” President Zardari‚Äôs total support of PM has once again silenced rumors of split in PPP top leadership. Govt is here till 2013″

What is ironic about this incident is that both the target and the killer will be called Shaheeds by different segments of the population. Have a look at the SMS I received;

“Gustakh-e-Rasool SAW Salman Taseer Governor Punjab apne guard ke haathon qatal. Mubarak ho. – Islami Jamat Talba Voice.”

The universal religion of Humanity – the original Islam – is indeed in danger from this insanity.

  1. Well you people are feeling sad and sorry for the person who insulted our Prophet? have you all lost imaan? all scholars from all sects agree that the person who insults our prophet must be killed..otherwise it would take it to the next level and encourage other people to continue to insult . Salmaan taseer was a alcoholic and atheist. hats off to Mumtaaz Qaadir that brave person has showed his love for Prophet to defend the honour of islam. No one now can dare to say a word against our Prophet.
btw shame on you all who support Salman taseer for his heinous act of supporting asia bibi.
@Hina safdar..Where was salmaan taseer when sialkot murder took place? where was he when people are dying in drone attacks and in target killings and bomb blasts?.
he is a traitor anyways ..

  2. As Salman Taseer’s extra efficiency against the Law of Blasphemy was itself a kind of ‘extremism’, so much so that he went so far as calling the sacred law to be a ‘black law’, we cannot alone blame the guard for his side of extremism.

  3. @Hamid

It is an extremists act not to blame society for it. Not every one thinks like that but the way people are congratulating is disturbing me.

Allah aisi mout kisi ko na day

  4. Hamid, having one opinion is one thing but using your opinion aginast the religion is something very different. There is very thin line between being opinionated and being disrespectful when it comes to the boundaries of Islam. If Salman Taseer was so against the Blasphemy Law, why he did not challenge it in the court of law. Instead of getting good lawyer for Aasia Bibi, he took on a media war.

Salman Taseer was a showboy and a cunning businessmen, so confident of himself that he can outmanenver any situation, just like ZAB. And that got him in the end.

  5. The incident of the day is not shameful or regretful in any mean inspite of this the thing shows the world that how much fundamentalist we are about the dignity of OUR Prophet PBUH. Every muslim Salutes the courage of Mr. Mumtaz Raza Qadri(may Allah protect him)

  6. SALMAN TASEER KI MOUT KI KHABAR AFSOS NAK TO HA MAGAR UN K KIRDAR JO WO NAMOUS E RISALT K KHILAF BAAT KR RAHAY THAY UNKA WO RAWAYA BOHAT KHARAB THA.
KAMAZKAM AKE MUSLMAN KO TO AISA NAHI KRNA CHAHEAY THA .
MERI SADAR E PAKISTAN SE REQUEST HA K ASIA KO PHANSI DI JAY
