Drug Abuse and Alcohol: A serious threat for Young Generation!

Teenage Drug UseAs it’s commonly noticed now a days that hobbies like sports, reading, painting are vanishing day by day. Interests of our young generation are smoking, hanging out on Sheesha bars , gulping down the water in the bottle “alcohol “.

The factor of COOL and UNCOOL is spreading like an epidemic disease in universities, colleges and even in schools. The kids who are on straight path and are trying to protect themselves from such addictions are known as UNCOOL NERDS and kids who prefer drugs in parties over studies and healthy activities are referred as THE COOL PEOPLE. Here is when the trigger snaps being referred as UNCOOL NERDS can provoke kids to take serious steps either they get sick of depression or they get addicted to THE COOL STUFF and ruin their lives.

Drug abuse is getting more and more common widespread drug abuse may be indicated by the fact that almost five percent of the adult population is using drugs in Pakistan. As a proportion of drug abusers, heroin users have increased from 7.5 percent in 1983 to a shocking 51 percent a decade later in 1993.

I think some of the major reasons are that in Pakistan drugs like alcohol and heroin are strictly prohibited but it’s available on a large scale and no one is checking over them, it’s so obvious when such things are available easily so why won’t people buy them? As it’s the COOL factor of the society know a days. So who is to blame the youth, their families or the system? What I think is every one has to contribute their part.

The families who have parents addicted to alcohol or smoking tobacco should at least avoid doing them in front of their children. Universities, Colleges and Schools should conduct workshops telling kids that how much drugs and alcohol can harm them, but most importantly when drugs will be banned strictly and will not be easily available so the ratio of drugs abuse can come down to a large extent.

Pakistani Government should take major steps on banning such drugs that can harm people’s lives before the youth which is suppose to run our dear country ends in fire and smoke.

  1. I am A student and living in the environment where ppl do drugs,
smoke. In my university, the trend of smoking is increasing day by day.
I can say it is the COOL and UNCOOL factor that is pushing students towards
take drugs and smoke because when you dont smoke, dont do drugs
you are a nerd only… An uncool nerd!!! The problem is that these drugs
and other stuffs are clearly positioned (Now days) as something related to
superiority and cool factor. Everybody want friends and need recognition ,
so most people resort to using these things, despite all the harms they are
aware of. Government need to take serious initiative to wash the positioning
that is done. Making drugs unavailable is not a COMPLETE solution!!

  2. well Yusha
1st high security alerts on such stuff and police should raid such spots where such things are happening because apparently they know where such things are happening but again it’s a long a debate about how loyal is our police .. But you see there should be strict punishments for those who are caught doing all this stuff like long imprisonments …
2nd People are getting addicted to a very common glue in Pakistan known as SAMAD BOND and its quite cheap and that is kind of drug too…
3rd When on earth I said good people are doing that, of course only a bad person can think that doing such stuff is cool thing to do , what I was saying was yes there is a cool and uncool factor responsible of the spread of drug addiction whatever it is cigarettes or heroin or alcohol or samad bond ..
And I have got a point of view, I have my own thinking and nobody can change it I cannot fake my thinking … it’s a democratic country we are living in and every person has right to say what they want !!!!!!!

  3. 1st Pakistani Govt should take more strict measures to stop them because after all we are making cigarettes and they are not banned we literally have tobacco companies and they are not banned !!!

Cigarettes is a different issue altogether. We are talking about drugs. And they are banned. The issue is, how they can be stopped from being available despite a ban. Whenever something is banned, it just goes underground. Drugs are available everywhere all over the world despite a ban. Since you are bringing the government in the middle, can you suggest any ideas as to what the government can/should do?

2nd they are not so expensive we have various cheap kind of drugs available and people who are addicted to them they don’t give a damn about health, religion or money, they can even kill people to get what they want!!!

I am not aware of any inexpensive drugs out there. The people who can afford them and don’t care about the consequences are only a minority.

3rd straight kids who are protecting themselves are actually tortured by bad kids by such word like uncool nerds etc!! Hope I have satisfied you!!!

So now you are finally admitting that it is the bad kids who do drugs and not normal people to look cool. Perhaps this article could have been written in general terms, mentioning health and social problems related to alcohol and drugs (which you did not do). Instead, you just focused on the cool/uncool aspect of it (which doesn’t exist). Also, there is so little on alcohol in the article, I am left to wonder why you included alcohol in the title.

  5. The youth must be saved in Pakistan. It is important that we give them recreational activities so that they do not fall prey to terrorist organizations and drug mafias!

    Aren’t they banned already?

it’s so obvious when such things are available easily so why won’t people buy them?

People won’t buy them for a number of reasons. Expense, health reasons, religious reasons, because they are illegal, etc.

…trying to protect themselves from such addictions are known as UNCOOL NERDS.

They are known as people with common sense. I think you need to change school.

  8. Well Mr.Yusha I really appreciate you for taking out time to read my article. Firstly I think this term uncool nerd is all fine, secondly I have targeted our youth because I am young myself and I face such things that worries me alot I mean among my friends and many of my friends are ruining their lives by getting addicted to alcohol because they think it’s cool. I was just giving my point of view or you can say adding my bit for betterment in our society. Thank you!! =)

  9. Q1. What is an uncool nerd? Nerds are supposed to be uncool. I have never heard of a cool nerd.

Q2. Why have you based your article on people taking drugs because it is cool? Do you realize that many drug addicts are victims of depression, others who take them are kids of rich people, and still others who have them are criminals.

Q3. Is it just me or did you make it look like the only people who abuse drugs are young people?

Q4. Since when did abusing drugs become cool? Yes, smoking used to be cool years back, but today even smoking is seen as something terrible. And drugs being cool; on which planet is abusing drugs cool?

Please stop torturing me with your articles and write something sensible. The choice of subject is good but you have turned it into a disaster.
