Chairman PCB Ijaz Butt: a psychiatric case?

Ijaz Butt - Chairman PCB Almost every Pakistani in a position of power wants to get super rich within a few months. I have interacted with Pakistani civil servants and cannot remember even one who was honest. Yet Ijaz Butt, the present chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board seems to have been afflicted by a rare disease: honesty.

According to a statement released to the media on September 8, the PCB Chairman is not availing many facilities which he’s entitled to, under the rules.

According to the statement although all the chairman of the board is entitled to fully furnished accommodation or Rs 100,000 per month, Butt has never availed of either the fully furnished accommodation or payment from the board.

Any chairman of PCB is entitled to a 3500cc fully maintained car with driver. Butt does not avail this facility and uses his own transport and driver even for PCB duties,” the statement said.

A Chairman of PCB is entitled for reimbursement of residential utility bills for electricity, water and gas or Rs 40,000 per month in lieu thereof. Butt does not claim anything from PCB towards utility bills,” the statement added.

The statement said Butt had not even availed the facility of keeping four full time domestic servants including security guards nor has lodged any claim for reimbursement of medical expenses for self or spouse – a facility which any chairman of PCB is entitled to.

The statement said that Butt had also not claimed any Daily Allowance for domestic visits, which is Rs 5000 per day, nor claimed any business entertainment.

“The only perks that Butt avails from PCB are his mobile phone which he uses for PCB business, his international air travel, hotel accommodation and daily allowance for international visits only when on PCB official business,” the statement said.
It seems that Mr. Ijaz Butt is losing at least Rs. 250,000 to Rs. 300,000 per month by not availing the perks he’s entitled to.

The question is, why is this un-Pakistani behaviour being tolerated? The only thing every Pakistani in a position of power wants is to loot the exchequer and ultimately buy a flat in London, if not more. I suggest that Mr. Ijaz Butt should be examined by competent psychiatrists to determine whether he’s mentally fit. If he’s really as honest as the news item suggests, there’s no
telling what will happen if more people are infected by this disease called “honesty”.

  1. general, i beg to differ with your views because essentially you are talking about suppressing opinions which may not match yours.

how can you stop people from having a discussion?
how can you even define true pakistan…will it be as defined by military or you or a politician or a religious cleric?
how can YOU decide what people should discuss?

being an indian, i fully agree with the advise about not watching pirated videos and illegal movies also i have not watched pakistani TV but i agree to the point about not watching indian TV if the argument is based on patriotism – though you are mixing it with quality of programming here. here you could perhaps set an example by not scouring their newpapers and websites daily.

on the other hand if being real pakistani or indian is about banning each others products or cutting out cultural influences as appears from your post then i have nothing to say.

  2. if people want to be real Pakistani and not un-Pakistani ——demand that the video shops and some of the illegal cinemas stop broadcasting indian bollywood CRAP

stop watching their TV also. We have PLENTYYYY of good movies and channels that are Pakistani. Better acting, better quality.

un-Pakistani also means daring to disucss anything that distorts image of true Pakistan (e.g. Asma JAhangir)

  3. Hina: “Un-Pakistani behavior”: this means behaviour or activity which is contrary to how a normal Pakistan behaves or opposite of what the normal Pakistani does. In the U.S. (in the 1950’s) there used to be a committee to investigate un-American activities (which meant activities of members of the Communist Party). If you write “un-Pakistani” in a word document, you will notice that the program accepts it (without the crooked line underneath it).

no harm in questioning but always questioning and criticizing isn’t healthy either….No offense
I felt that this news should be given proper projections and respect from the media which it deserves if true. Un Pakistani behavior is new term for me…
Any ways nothing personal its what I feel.

  5. Since you are a teacher let me tell you this. In western countries, teachers encourage students to ask questions, but in the subcontinent, if a student asks a question, teachers start yelling with things like DIDN’T YOU READ THIS or WHY DON’T YOU KNOW THIS. Do you know why teachers do this. It’s because teachers don’t know the answer themselves and to avoid embarrassment they start yelling to make the student look bad. Because of this kind of behaviour from teachers students don’t ask questions.

  6. @ Hina: those who don’t ask questions are not really alive. They may be walking, eating, breathing, but that is what animals also do. There’s no difference between those who don’t ask and those who’re six feet below the ground. You may have seen people who are walking corpses (like those who belong to the Tableeghi Jamaat). Need I say more? As far as the above post is concerned, please look up the word “sarcasm” in your dictionary (if you have one).

U can have an optimistic post out of it but following your trend to bring negativity in front of the reader as most of your post are misleading or questionnaire u did the same with this one……

SEE AT THE BOTTOM OF UR POST>>OTHER POSTS BY AUTHOR and count how many titles are there with ?? in them……..
    ANY WAYS

Mr. Ijaz Butt will earn huge amount of respect after this news if it is true or it could be an effort to portray his image as a GOOD man after he lost the battle for WC 2011 matches for Pakistan……

MAY GOD INFECT ALL OF US WITH THE DISEASE OF HONESTY

  8. This should be given more publicity. commended by media anchors and people in general must urge other bufoons to follow suite. Everyday one hears untold tales of corruption and mass deceit of lowly beings in corridors of power. In such an ambiance Ijaz Butt is a welcome change.
